FLORENCE, S.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team battled tough against Francis Marion on the road in league action on Saturday afternoon.

Ellie Middleton paced the Hawks with seven kills and 11 digs. Diana Rodriguez led the defense with 21 digs.
Kolleen Priest, Madison Hall, and Nia Baskin collected four kills each. Chloe Putnam recorded a team-high four service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ellie Middleton and Nia Baskin opened the scoring for the Hawks with a kill each. Kolleen Priest added a kill and Hadley Prince served up an ace to keep the score close 6-5. Middleton and Baskin teamed up for a block to slow the FMU rally before a kill by Middleton and Haydon Ahlers closed the gap to 13-11.
Francis Marion went on a run to lead 18-13 before Madison Hall sparked a rally with a pair of kills along with a service ace by Chloe Putnam to close the gap to 18-16 and force a FMU timeout. Putnam tallied another ace out of the break and Nia Baskin notched a kill to even the set at 21-all. Kolleen Priest added a kill before the score evened up at 24-all after a pair of three-point swings. FMU found the final two points in the set to take the victory 26-24.
The Patriots would jump out in front 4-1 in the second set before Ellie Middleton notched a kill. Middleton added three more kills before Nia Baskin added a kill and Hadley Prince served up an ace to close the gap to 10-8. FMU pushed in front with five straight points before a kill by Madison Hall and a pair service aces by Diana Rodriguez ended the rally. Kolleen Priest and Alexa Woolson added a kill before the Patriots finished off the set.
Haydon Ahlers would put the Hawks on the board with a kill before Alexa Woolson served up an ace to take a 6-5 lead. Madison Hall added a kill and Chloe Putnam tallied a pair of aces to put the Hawks up 12-8. FMU rallied before a kill by Ahlers and Kolleen Priest kept the Hawks in front 16-15. A string off attacking errors pushed the Patriots in front 22-17.
