MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team picked up the opening set before falling to Shaw in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Alexa Woolson registered a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs. Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with 14 kills.
Diana Rodriguez contributed 22 digs, while Ellie Middleton tallied 18 digs and six kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alexa Woolson started the Hawks off strong recording three service aces in the opening five points of the match. Ellie Middleton added a pair of kills along with a kill by Chloe Putnam and a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez to force a timeout, 9-3.
After a service ace by Chloe Putnam, Shaw rallied to close the gap to 10-8. Haydon Ahlers added a kill before another rally by the Bears allowed them to take the lead 14-12. Ellie Middleton and Chloe Putnam notched a kill each to even the score. The Hawks rallied as Anixa Rosa-Martinez collected three kills along with a kill by Nia Baskin and an assisted block by Baskin and Nyah Powers to take the opening set 25-22.
The second set was all Shaw as the Bears jumped out to a 12-4 advantage before a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, and Ellie Middleton trimmed the deficit to 12-8. Shaw rattled off the next six points before Nyah Powers posted a kill. Rosa-Martinez and Haydon Ahlers added a kill before the end of the set.
Chloe Putnam started off the third set with a kill as Anixa Rosa-Martinez added the next four kills to keep pace with the Bears. Hadley Prince added a kill and Nia Baskin picked up a pair of kills to even the score at 9-all. Brianna Moye tallied three kills to give the Hawks a 16-14 lead. The Bears responded with the final nine points to take the set 25-19.
Shaw led the fourth set 6-2 before kills by Nia Baskin and Anixa Rosa-Martinez put the Hawks in front 7-6. Ellie Middleton, Haydon Ahlers, and Baskin sprinkled in kills as Shaw's lead grew to 20-14. Hadley Prince added a pair of kills along with a service ace by Nia Baskin before the Bears finished off the match.

Chowan returns to Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday, October 4 as the Hawks host UNC Pembroke. First serve is slated for 6pm.
