CU Volleyball Falters Against UNC Pembroke On The Road

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team was unable to get the offense going in a straight sets loss to UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening on the road.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Ellie Middleton led the Chowan attack with six kills.  Chloe Putnam tallied five kills, while Nia Baskin collected four kills.

Diana Rodriguez notched 23 digs on the evening as Hadley Prince posted 11 digs in her season debut.

Alexa Woolson, Hadley Prince, Nia Baskin, and Diana Rodriguez tallied two service aces each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ellie Middleton and Madison Hall put the Hawks on the board early with a kill each.  Nia Baskin, Nyah Powers, and Sydney Ginaitt added a kill each to trail 12-9.  UNC Pembroke scored the next seven points to lead 19-9.  Hadley Prince served up an ace and Chloe Putnam added a kill before the end of the set.

UNC Pembroke opened up an 8-2 lead before Chloe Putnam notched the first kill for the Hawks in the second set.  Nia Baskin added a pair of service aces prior to Putnam adding a kill and Alexa Woolson posting a pair of aces to take the lead 10-9.  The Braves would go on a 9-1 run to lead 18-11 before a dump set by Woolson ended the rally.  Diana Rodriguez collected an ace and Baskin posted a kill to close the gap to 18-15.  Baskin added another kill and Ellie Middleton tallied a pair of kills before the end of the set.

Hadley Prince added an ace and a kill to open the scoring for the Hawks in the third set.  Nia Baskin and Ellie Middleton added a kill to keep the score close, 8-5.  Following a kill by Chloe Putnam, the Braves pushed their lead to 18-8 before Putnam, Nyah Powers, and Middleton posted kills to trim the deficit to 19-12.  UNCP finished off the set and match to take the victory.

UP NEXT

Chowan travels to Florence, S.C. to take on Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, September 24.  First serve is slated for 1pm.
