BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team picked up the Conference Carolinas victory over Belmont Abbey before falling to Wingate in non-conference action on the road on Saturday.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the Hawks with 24 kills, eight service aces, and 14 digs. Kolleen Priest collected 10 kills.
Diana Rodriguez notched 43 digs and 11 assists. Alexa Woolson added 19 assists and six service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 3, Belmont Abbey 1
Chowan opened up the match on a 6-1 run after a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and service aces by Ellie Middleton and Diana Rodriguez. The Hawks were aided by attack errors by Belmont Abbey as Middleton collected another ace to lead 15-9. Rosa-Martinez and Kolleen Priest finished off the opening set with a kill before Sydney Ginaitt posted the final kill in the set to win 25-21.
Belmont Abbey would flip the script in the second set with a 7-3 lead. The Crusaders pushed their advantage to 17-11 before a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and a pair of service aces by Alexa Woolson closed the gap to 17-15. BAC would fend off the late rally by the Hawks to even the match at 1-all.
Tied at 3-all in the third set, Chowan rattled off the next seven points to take a 10-3 lead. Anixa Rosa-Martinez collected three service aces and a kill during the rally. Madison Hall and Chloe Putnam joined in on the attack to push the lead to 17-9. Putnam and Rosa-Martinez put the final touches on the set with a kill to take the set 25-15.
In the fourth set, Alexa Woolson collected a pair of service aces to hand the lead to Chowan 12-10. Madison Hall, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Nia Baskin, and Kolleen Priest added a kill to maintain the advantage, 20-15. Rosa-Martinez, Nyah Powers, and Nia Baskin finished off the victory with kills.
Chowan 0, Wingate 3
Chowan traded points with Wingate in the opening set knotting the match up at 15-all after a kill by Anixa-Rosa Martinez. Haydon Ahlers, Kolleen Priest and Madison Hall tried to keep the set close as the Bulldogs took the opening set 25-20.
Wingate opened the second set on a 5-1 run and later pushed the lead to 9-4. Nia Baskin ended the run with a kill to spark a rally by the Hawks to even the score at 9-all. Kolleen Priest notched a pair of kills and Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a pair of service aces. The Bulldogs countered with a run to lead 18-12. Chloe Putnam and Rosa-Martinez slowed the run with a kill each. Wingate would take the second set 25-18.
Chowan would lead 9-5 in the third set grabbing kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Kolleen Priest, Chloe Putnam, and Alexa Woolson. Rosa-Martinez and Putnam pushed the lead to 12-7 before a small run by the Bulldogs closed the gap to 12-11. Both teams would trade points as the Hawks led 20-17. Wingate battled back to find the final eight points to take the set and match.
