TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Chowan Volleyball team clawed back to force a fourth set but was unable to overcome the North Greenville attack in the Conference Carolinas opener on Friday evening on the road.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the Hawks with 12 kills on the evening.  
Kolleen Priest chipped in with seven kills, while 
Madison Hall added six kills.
Sydney Ginaitt collected 17 assists, while 
Alexa Woolson tallied 13 assists. 
Diana Rodriguez led the defense with 17 digs. 
Nia Baskin added four kills and 2.5 blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quick 3-0 start by the Hawks as 
Anixa Rosa-Martinez served up an ace, North Greenville countered with the next 10 points to force a timeout.  
Kolleen Priest and 
Madison Hall notched a kill as the deficit grew to 20-7.  Rosa-Martinez added two kills along with a kill by 
Haydon Ahlers as NGU took the opening set 25-12.
Madison Hall and 
Kolleen Priest put the Hawks on the board in the second set on a pair of kills.  Priest, 
Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and 
Sydney Ginaitt closed the gap to 11-8 on a kill each.  Rosa-Martinez added three kills down the stretch along with a kill by 
Chloe Putnam, 
Nyah Powers, and Hall before the end of the set.
Chowan jumped out to an early 6-0 lead that forced the Crusaders to call a timeout.  
Nia Baskin collected two kills and 
Ellie Middleton added a service ace during the run.  
Madison Hall added a pair of kills to stretch the lead to 9-2.  The Crusaders rallied back to take a 16-13 advantage before Hall slowed the run with a kill.  
Kolleen Priest sparked a small run to give the Hawks back the advantage, 20-19, with a kill.  
Diana Rodriguez posted a service ace and 
Nyah Powers collected a kill.  
Nia Baskin finished off the set with a block, 25-21.
In the final set, both teams traded points as 
Anixa Rosa-Martinez evened the score at 16-all.  NGU scored nine of the final 11 points to secure the win.
UP NEXT
Chowan heads to Belmont, N.C. to take on Belmont Abbey in league play on Saturday, September 17 at 2pm.  The Hawks will then face Wingate in non-conference action at 4pm.
