Chowan Suffers Pair Of Losses To Patriots

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped a pair of league games on the road against Francis Marion on Friday afternoon on the road.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Haleigh Reid picked up a pair of hits to lead the Hawks at the plate in the nightcap.  Jesse Gentry also tallied two hits in the doubleheader with a two-run home run.

Hannah Eden, Meredith Morgan, and Serena Riley picked up one hit each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 2, Francis Marion 13 (five innings)

Francis Marion started the contest with a pair of home runs to lead 2-0 in the first inning.  The Patriots would stretch their lead to 6-0 in the second.

Chowan would pick up their first hit in the top of the third as Serena Riley doubled down the left field line before Jesse Gentry hit a home run to left center to cut the deficit to 6-2.  Mya Horne drew a walk prior to Meredith Morgan picking up a single to right center.

Kaitlin Brunelli and Courtney Lamb reached on via the free pass in the fourth but was unable to come across to score.

FMU used a pair of errors in the fourth inning along with six hits to plate seven runs to extend their lead to 13-2.

Game Two: Chowan 0, Francis Marion 8 (five innings)

Francis Marion struck for a run in the first inning scoring on a wild pitch to lead 1-0.

Haleigh Reid picked up a single in the second and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Lamb before being left stranded in scoring position.

FMU tallied four runs in the bottom of the second to lead 5-0.

Jesse Gentry picked up a single to lead off the third inning before trading places with Mya Horne on a fielder's choice.  Horne moved up to second on a wild pitch before being left stranded.

The Patriots added a run in the third inning and a pair in the fourth to take the contest 8-0.

Hannah Eden recorded a single to center before a double play squandered the rally.  Haleigh Reid doubled to left center for the final hit for the Hawks.

UP NEXT

Chowan makes the 'short' trip to Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Sunday.  First pitch is slated for 2pm.
