SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the first time since the 2018 season, the Chowan Women's Basketball team picked up a win in postseason play behind a strong performance by Destiny Robinson against Emmanuel, 55-47, on Friday evening in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals.

Destiny Robinson posted a near triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and eight blocks. Aniah Patterson led the Hawks with 14 points. Demetria Bland added 11 points. Olivia Gaither hauled in nine rebounds, while Monique Jones and Keibra Hopkins tallied eight rebounds each.
The win claimed the first Conference Carolinas tournament win for the Hawks and the first tournament win since the 2017-18 season (CIAA).
Chowan makes their first Conference Carolinas semifinals appearance and third overall playing in the CIAA semifinals during the 2015-16 season and 2011-12 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan opened the contest with a 6-0 run as Olivia Gaither started the scoring for the Hawks. Keibra Hopkins added a layup before Aniah Patterson connected from the floor.
Emmanuel would break the seal with 3:36 remaining before Destiny Robinson and Demetria Bland added points from the floor to lead 10-2.
The Lions would close the gap to 10-7 at the end of the period.
Second Quarter:
After an opening basket by the Lions, Destiny Robinson added a jumper prior to Aniah Patterson picking up a pair from the stripe. Keibra Hopkins added a layup to lead 16-9.
The Lions went on a 7-0 run to even the score at 16-all before Keibra Hopkins connected for a pair at the stripe. Aniah Patterson hit a jumper to offset the Emmanuel basket.
Destiny Robinson and Aniah Patterson connected from the floor to lead 24-18 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Aniah Patterson connected from the charity stripe prior to Emmanuel evening the score at 26-all. Shequana Jackson put the Hawks back on top with a layup, 28-26, before an 8-0 run by the Lions to lead 34-28.
Demetria Bland ended the run with a jumper. Destiny Robinson finished off the old-fashioned three point play to close the gap to 35-33. Three free throws for the Hawks put the Hawks back on top 36-35 at the end of the period.
Fourth Quarter:
Emmanuel took a two point lead with three quick points, 38-36. Destiny Robinson hit the front-end of the three-point play before Keibra Hopkins grabbed the offensive board and scored to lead 41-40.
Aniah Patterson continued the run with a three-pointer out of the timeout. Emmanuel picked up a pair from the stripe to cut the deficit to 44-42 with 4:22 remaining.
Demetria Bland posted back-to-back buckets to push their advantage to 48-42 with 1:35 remaining. The Lions picked up three points at the stripe as Bland added a pair from the stripe to lead 50-45 with 21.0 remaining.
Monique Jones picked up a pair from the stripe as the Lions continued to chip away into their deficit. Demetria Bland went 1-2 from the stripe before Destiny Robinson blocked a Lions' attempt and Jones secured the rebound. Jones finished off the contest with a pair from the stripe.

Chowan will look to continue their success as the Hawks play nationally-ranked Barton in the Conference Carolinas semifinals on Saturday, March 5. Tip-off is slated for 5pm.
