MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team held off a ninth inning rally in a 10-8 victory against Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Friday afternoon.

Ryan Bellamy and Caleb Karie paced the Hawks with four hits each. Bellamy tallied three RBI, while Karie notched two RBI. Dallas Trevena posted three hits including two doubles.
Noah Evington went 2-3 at the plate with two walks. Nicky Wohleking picked up the win on the mound tossing 6.0 innings allowing three runs off seven hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Wesleyan broke the scoreless contest in the top of the third on a pair of hits to start the inning to lead 1-0.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the inning as Dallas Trevena sparked a rally with a one-out single to left. Noah Evington singled up the middle before Tyler West reached on an error allowing Trevena to score on the miscue. Patrick Krack drew a walk to load the bases before Ryan Bellamy delivered a two RBI single to right center. Caleb Karie hit a slow chopper to third for an infield single to plate a run to lead 4-1.
The Warriors countered with a two run frame in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 on three hits.
The Hawks would once again rally in the bottom half of the inning as Dallas Trevena doubled to left field before Noah Evington reached on a walk. Emanuel Betancourt notched a single up the middle allowing Trevena to score prior to Patrick Krack and Ryan Bellamy recording singles to right to plate Evington and Betancourt to lead 7-3.
Chowan used a bit of two-out magic in the sixth inning to plate a run as Ryan Bellamy started the rally with an infield single. Caleb Karie added a single before Ben Bausas notched his first hit of his collegiate career with a RBI single to left center to lead 8-3.
Emanuel Betancourt started a rally in the eighth inning reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Ryan Bellamy doubled to center allowing Betancourt to come around to score as the ball slipped out of the fielder's hand on the attempted throw. Caleb Karie singled to right center to plate Bellamy to extend their lead to 10-3.
Southern Wesleyan used five free passes and three hits to cut the deficit to 10-8 before Timothy Blackman rolled a 5-3 double play to end the contest.
