MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University Department of Athletics is set to host the 12th annual Play4Kay Cancer Awareness basketball game on Friday, February 11th. The Hawks will play host to Belmont-Abbey at the Hawks Athletic Center. Tip off is slated for 5:00pm. Friday's event will be the first community event the Hawks have hosted since the pandemic started in March of 2020.
While the event will be scaled down from previous years to take into account the continued community spread of COVID19. Prior to the women's game, cancer survivors will be given flowers and recognized for their win over cancer. Chowan's own
Hayley Piglowski will serve as the commemorative ball tosser. The head acrobatics and tumbling coach survived a battle with lymphoma a year ago, all the while still remaining steadfast to her team and position.
Students are invited to participate in a poster contest to win Hawks Bucks and cash prizes. Students can head to the Hawks Nest from 3:00pm-4:30pm to create the posters. The posters will be judged by cancer survivors at halftime of the women's game. There will be in-game contests for everyone throughout both the women's and the men's games.
