MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team rebounded to earn the 76-59 victory over Converse in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Destiny Robinson recorded her fourth straight double-double and tenth this season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Olivia Gaither chipped in with 12 points.  Demetria Bland tallied seven points and five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Chowan opened the contest with five straight points as Destiny Robinson posted a layup on the first possession.  Aniah Patterson picked up a pair at the stripe and Tyaysia Sharpe added one from the line.

Converse would get on the board with a three-pointer before Olivia Gaither tallied one point at the line and Tyaysia Sharpe hit a jumper to lead 8-3.

The Valkyries rallied to take the lead 12-10 before Brianna Copeland handed the lead back to the Hawks with a three-pointer.  Destiny Robinson posted back-to-back buckets to lead 17-14 at the end of the opening frame.

Second Quarter:

Jahkeria Bagby opened the scoring in the frame from the line before Olivia Gaither knocked down a trey to lead 22-14.  Converse cut the deficit to two, 22-20, with a pair of three-pointers.  Aniah Patterson answered with a three-pointer.

Destiny Robinson and Olivia Gaither traded baskets with the Valkyries before Shequana Jackson picked up a pair at the charity stripe.  Keibra Hopkins knocked down a triple with 2:12 to finish off the scoring as the Hawks went into the locker room with a 35-29 advantage.

Third Quarter:

Converse would close the gap to 37-34 before Olivia Gaither added a pair from the stripe and hit a jumper.  Destiny Robinson added a jumper to push the advantage back to five, 41-36.

Following a bucket by Converse, the Hawks went on a 14-4 run to end the quarter.  Jahkeria Bagby and Olivia Gaither started the run with a pair of freebies.  Destiny Robinson added the next six points before Monique Jones posted a layup.  Bagby finished off the run with a layup to lead 55-42.

Fourth Quarter:

Converse opened the frame with a 5-0 run before the Hawks countered with a 10-0 run.  Demetria Bland and Keibra Hopkins knocked down triples before Shequana Jackson and Hopkins added a pair of layups.

Demetria Bland connected from deep before the two teams traded baskets down the stretch.  Emaree Hinton, Kashara Simpson, and Jayah King-Johnson posted a bucket down the stretch.

Chowan is scheduled to take on Francis Marion on Tuesday, February 8 in a make-up contest.  Tip-off is slated for 5pm.
