MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team could not overcome a tough shooting night as the Hawks were dealt a 70-57 loss in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening against North Greenville.

Aniah Patterson led the Hawks with 16 points. Destiny Robinson posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Chowan shot 29.9% (20-67) from the floor including being held to nine points in the second quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
After the opening basket by the Crusaders, Aniah Patterson scored the first five points for the Hawks knocking down a triple and a pair from the line. Olivia Gaither knocked down a jumper before another 5-0 run by Patterson allowed the Hawks to lead 12-7.
Destiny Robinson posted a pair of buckets before Jahkeria Bagby notched a pair from the stripe to lead 18-10. Olivia Gaither added a pair from the line prior to Aniah Patterson knocking down a jumper before the buzzer to lead 22-14.
Second Quarter:
Destiny Robinson added a jumper to open up the scoring before NGU went on a 12-2 run to even the score at 26-all. Monique tallied a pair from the line before ending the run with a layup.
Olivia Gaither added a pair at the stripe to maintain the advantage before the Crusaders finished off the half with a 5-0 run to lead 33-31.
Third Quarter:
Aniah Patterson opened the scoring in the half with a pair of jumpers. Keibra Hopkins added a jumper to slow the NGU run as the Crusaders opened up the advantage to 43-37.
Destiny Robinson tallied a jumper before a three minute drought. Tyaysia Sharpe posted back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit to 48-43.
NGU led 51-43 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Destiny Robinson posted an old-fashioned three-point play to start the scoring in the frame. Monique Jones and Robinson posted a basket each to keep the contest manageable, 56-50.
NGU opened up their advantage to double-figures before Monique Jones posted a layup and Tyaysia Sharpe knocked down a triple.
The Hawks would not connect from the floor the final three minutes of the contest as NGU finished off the scoring.

Chowan will look to rebound on Saturday, February 5 as the Hawks host Converse in the second meeting of the season. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
