MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team was unable to climb back in the contest after a large first-half deficit on the road against Mount Olive in league action on Tuesday evening.

Daylan Askew paced the Hawks with 17 points. Christian Koonce chipped in with 14 points. Chase Barnett added eight points and seven rebounds.
The Hawks trailed 48-27 at the half as Mount Olive shot 61.3% (19-31) from the field in the opening half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Cheick Traore put the Hawks on the board before Chase Barnett tallied a layup to lead 4-3 early. UMO would go on an 11-0 run to push their advantage to 14-4. Christian Koonce ended the run with a jumper before UMO connected from deep. Daylan Askew connected from the floor to cut the deficit to 17-8.
RJ Wilson added a layup before Chase Barnett tallied a pair from the stripe as Mount Olive stretched their lead to 31-12. Jay Estime slowed the run with a layup. Marcus Elliott added a jumper as the Trojans led 36-16. Donavon Martin registered a dunk before Estime picked up three points at the stripe.
Christian Koonce hit a jumper from the base line before Daylan Askew connected on a layup to trail 45-25. Koonce add a jumper as the Hawks trailed 48-27 at the half.
Second Half:
Daylan Askew opened the scoring in the half with a triple and a layup to spark a run. Christian Koonce added a layup before assisting on Jay Estime's layup in transition to force a Trojan timeout, 51-36. UMO added a three-point play before Chase Barnett scored on a layup.
Christian Koonce ended a scoreless drought with a pull-up jumper. Daylan Askew added a layup in transition before Koonce connected from the stripe to cut into the deficit 59-44. Cheick Traore notched a pair of baskets prior to Koonce adding a layup in transition.
Xavier Young tallied a pair from the stripe before RJ Wilson added a pair. Chase Barnett connected from the floor, but the Trojans answered at the other end, 75-56. Daylan Askew knocked down a triple from the left wing before answering with another triple.
Donavon Martin and Xavier Young tallied a layup for the final points of the contest.
