GREENEVILLE, TENN. – A slow start to the season opener hurt the Chowan Women's Lacrosse team in an 18-8 loss to Tusculum in non-conference action on Saturday.

Grace Taylor paced the Hawks with a hat-trick recording four goals and one assist. Cameryn Barrow and Victoria Brown notched two goals each. Charity Brown posted two assists.
The Pioneers scored nine goals in the first quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Tusculum scored the opening three goals of the contest before Charity Brown found Victoria Brown for the opening tally for the Hawks.
The Pioneers finished off the period with six goals to lead 9-1.
Second Quarter:
After an opening goal by the Pioneers, Grace Taylor and Victoria Brown scored free position goals to cut the deficit to 10-4.
Grace Taylor would find Cameryn Barrow for a goal to close out the half to trail 12-5.
Third Quarter:
The Pioneers pushed their lead to 14-5 before Cameryn Barrow scored on a free position attempt. Grace Taylor found the back of the net off an assist from Charity Brown to cut the deficit in half, 14-7.
Tusculum added two more goals to lead 16-7 at the end of the period.
Fourth Quarter:
Grace Taylor scored the lone goal for the Hawks in the period. The Hawks failed to score on three free position attempts in the frame.
