BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to move back into third place in the Conference Carolinas standings after a 76-63 loss to Belmont Abbey in league play on Friday evening.

Aniah Patterson led the team with 19 points with five rebounds and five assists. Monique Jones and Shequana Jackson tallied 10 points each. Jackson recorded a career-high in scoring.
Belmont Abbey outscored the Hawks 22-13 in the third quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan opened the contest on a 15-5 run as Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple to start the scoring. Monique Jones added a putback basket before a pair of buckets by Patterson. Olivia Gaither connected from the floor prior to Patterson scoring a pair of jumpers to force a timeout.
Jahkeria Bagby tallied a pair from the stripe as Belmont Abbey closed the gap to 17-15. Tyaysia Sharpe knocked down a three-pointer to end the spurt and lead 20-17 at the end of the period.
Second Quarter:
Demetria Bland and Destiny Robinson posted a basket in the paint as Belmont Abbey traded baskets. Aniah Patterson, Jahkeria Bagby, and Olivia Gaither scored layups to maintain the one point lead, 30-29.
Olivia Gaither evened the score at 32-all before the Crusaders took the lead for good. Shequana Jackson connected from the floor before Monique Jones scored to trail 41-37 at the half.
Third Quarter:
Monique Jones posted a jumper prior to the Crusaders' 8-0 run. Shequana Jackson and Monique Jones posted a basket each before Jackson picked up two more baskets.
BAC pushed their advantage to double-figures as Jahkeria Bagby scored the final three points of the period for the Hawks to trail 63-50.
Fourth Quarter:
Olivia Gaither connected from the floor to put the Hawks on the board before Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple and Monique Jones and Keibra Hopkins scored to cut the deficit to 10, 69-59.
Shequana Jackson and Aniah Patterson posted back-to-back baskets to cut the deficit to six, 69-63, with 3:34 remaining.
BAC scored the final seven points of the contest to seal the victory.
