WILSON, N.C. – The first half momentum was not enough for the Chowan Women's Basketball team as the nationally-ranked Barton handed the Hawks a 91-65 loss in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Monique Jones recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Aniah Patterson paced the offense with 18 points on 8-12 shooting.  Demetria Bland tallied eight points and eight assists.

Chowan and Barton was tied 32-all at the half.  Barton shot 71% (22-31) from the floor in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Monique Jones scored on a jumper in the paint to put the Hawks on the board.  Aniah Patterson connected from the floor as the duo connected again to even the score at 8-all.

Keibra Hopkins hit a jumper before Tyaysia Sharpe posted a pair from the stripe to spark a run.  Shequana Jackson, Monique Jones, and Jahkeria Bagby connected from the floor to give the Hawks an 18-13 lead.

Monique Jones posted a layup to give the Hawks a 20-15 lead heading into the second frame.

Second Quarter:

Aniah Patterson posted back-to-back buckets to start the period.  After a Bulldog basket, Demetria Bland and Patterson scored to give the Hawks their largest lead of the contest, 28-18.

Barton would go on a 14-4 run to even the score before half.  Monique Jones posted a pair at the stripe and Destiny Robinson added a layup to end the half.

Third Quarter:

Early in the frame, the Hawks traded baskets with Barton as Destiny Robinson posted a pair from the stripe and Aniah Patterson added a layup.  Olivia Gaither tallied a point at the stripe before Demetria Bland scored a basket to lead 39-34.

Barton countered with a 10-2 run as Keibra Hopkins scored a basket during the run and a pair of baskets to end the run to put the Hawks back on top 45-44.

Demetria Bland posted a pair from the stripe and Aniah Patterson added a jumper before Barton went on a 15-3 run to end the period.  Tyaysia Sharpe and Patterson posted points at the stripe, 65-52.

Fourth Quarter:

Destiny Robinson picked up a point at the stripe before layups by Aniah Patterson and Monique Jones answered the Bulldog baskets.  Robinson picked up a layup prior to a 19-4 run by Barton to put the contest out of reach.

Demetria Bland ended the run with a layup for the final basket in the contest.
