Hawks Clipped By Defending National Champs Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.VA. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season as the defending national champions, Glenville State, handed the Hawks a 102-76 loss on the road on Monday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Destiny Robinson led the trio of Hawks in double-figures with 16 points and nine rebounds.  Imani Hickman collected her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Aniah Patterson scored 10 points.

Chowan shot 64.3% from the floor in the first quarter and finished the game shooting 49.2% from the floor.  The Hawks turned the ball over 35 times leading to 36 points for the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Imani Hickman put the Hawks on the board with a deep jumper to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.  Yasmine Brown added a driving layup before Destiny Robinson evened the score at 7-all with a three-point play.

Demetria Bland cut through the defense to put up a tough layup before Aniah Patterson handed the lead back to the Hawks with a triple, 12-11.  Patterson added another triple to extend the lead before Destiny Robinson posted a layup.  Yasmine Brown collected a layup to keep the Hawks in front 19-15.

Tyaysia Sharpe connected from the elbow and knocked down a pair from the charity stripe to lead 23-17.  Imani Hickman tallied a point from the stripe prior to Brittany Wilcox picking up the next four points from the stripe to end the quarter, 28-23.

Second Quarter:

Brittany Wilcox used a euro step to put the Hawks on the board with a layup in transition.  Imani Hickman used a putback layup to extend the lead to 32-26.  Jayah King-Johnson collected a pair of layups, 36-29.  Sydney Roberts connected from the floor to keep pace with the Pioneers. 

Glenville State would use a run to take the lead with four straight turnovers by the Hawks.  Chowan would be held scoreless for nearly five minutes before Jayah King-Johnson ended the dry spell with a layup.

Destiny Robinson notched a three-point play to trim the deficit back to single-digits, 52-43.  The Pioneers finished off the scoring in the half to lead 56-43.

Third Quarter:

The Pioneers continued to push their advantage as Aniah Patterson posted a pair of freebies during the early drought.  Demetria Bland posted a deep jumper to slow the run by the Pioneers.  Tyaysia Sharpe connected on a jumper prior to a three-pointer by Keibra Hopkins, 70-52.

Destiny Robinson collected four free throws before Imani Hickman posted a layup on a putback attempt to trail 81-58.

Fourth Quarter:

Aniah Patterson connected with a jumper to get the Hawks on the board in the frame.  Imani Hickman posted a layup before Brittany Wilcox went coast-to-coast for a pull-up jumper.  Destiny Robinson notched a layup along with a layup by Demetria Bland, 89-68.

Keibra Hopkins broke the press and hit a floater before Jayah King-Johnson posted a layup.  Destiny Robinson connected from the floor as Imani Hickman posted a layup.

Chowan will take the rest of the holiday break off until the Hawks travel to an old league foe on December 31 to take on Bowie State.  Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
