MURFREESBORO, N.C. – It is good to be home as the Chowan Men's Basketball team picked up their second straight win in as many tries defending their home court in a 91-65 rout of former league foe, St. Augustine's, on Monday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Daylan Askew paced the Hawks with 16 points.  Jay Estime added 14 points and Skyler Davies contributed 10 points.  Davies also led the team with nine rebounds.

Isaac Hippolyte and RJ Wilson tallied nine points each.  Off the bench, Donavon Martin posted five points and six rebounds in five minutes of action.

Chowan posted 23 assists on 27 made baskets with 21 offensive rebounds.  The Hawks posted a season-high 53 points in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Both teams started slow as Jay Estime knocked down a three-pointer off an offensive rebound to start the scoring.  Skyler Davies added a jumper and Preston Le Gassick connected from deep before Isaac Hippolyte knocked down a trey to push the lead to 11-5.

St. Augustine's would even the score at 11-all before a free throw by Jay Estime sparked a run.  Paul Whitby posted a layup in transition prior to a three-point play by RJ Wilson.  Christian Koonce picked up a point at the stripe to lead 18-11.  Wilson collected three more points at the stripe before Koonce connected from the floor.

Skyler Davies went 4-4 from the charity stripe along with a pair by Paul Whitby pushed the lead to 29-20.  The Falcons would start to close the gap, but Jay Estime knocked down a pair from behind the arc to maintain the cushion, 35-28.  Daylan Askew hit a triple to close out the half with a 38-31 lead.

Second Half:

After a quick spurt by the Falcons, Daylan Askew knocked down a pair from deep along with one by Skyler Davies pushed the lead to double-digits, 48-36.  Askew added a jumper as St. Augustine's closed the gap to six after a layup by Isaac Hippolyte, 52-46.

Daylan Askew sparked a 13-4 run with a dunk in transition as Paul Whitby, RJ Wilson, and Veigar Alexandersson hit from deep and Cheick Traore posted a layup to lead 65-50.  Isaac Hippolyte posted a pair of baskets in the paint before a triple by Estime pushed the lead to 73-53.

Daylan Askew connected from deep along with five freebies by Cheick Traore continued the scoring for the Hawks.  Rasheed Baldwin would get into the scoring column with a three-pointer before Donavon Martin finished off the alley-oop from Veigar Alexandersson.

Chowan steps back into league play as the Hawks travel to Mount Olive to take on the Trojans on Wednesday, November 30.  Tip-off is slated from 7:30pm.
