Chowan Falls To Georgia Southwestern On Road

AMERICUS, GA. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to stay with the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern as the Hawks fell in the final game of the Conference Challenge, 65-52, on Saturday afternoon.

Destiny Robinson collected her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go with four blocks.

Yasmine Brown posted eight points, while Tyaysia Sharpe added seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Tyaysia Sharpe put the Hawks on the board with a three-pointer.  Reagan Wilson collected a putback layup before Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple to even the score at 8-all.

Destiny Robinson collected a pair from the stripe along with a point by Keibra Hopkins to trail 12-11.

Second Quarter:

Imani Hickman and Aniah Patterson gave the Hawks a 15-12 lead early in the frame with a pair of buckets.  Yasmine Brown added a layup along with a pair of freebies by Destiny Robinson kept the Hawks in front 19-16.

Georgia Southwestern went on a 7-2 run as Tyaysia Sharpe collected a basket during the spurt before a pair of free throws by Destiny Robinson evened the contest at 23-all with 4:00 remaining in the half.

Imani Hickman connected from the floor prior to a three-pointer by Reagan Wilson cut the deficit to 31-28 before the half.

Third Quarter:

Keibra Hopkins and Destiny Robinson tallied a basket each out of the break prior to a 14-4 run by GSW put the Hurricanes in front 49-36.  Yasmine Brown added a pair of free throws and Tyaysia Sharpe connected from the floor.  Robinson ended the run with a pair of jumpers to cut the deficit to 49-42.

Fourth Quarter:

Keibra Hopkins opened the quarter with a layup as GSW pushed their lead back to double-digits.  Imani Hickman and Yasmine Brown added a pair from the stripe as the Hurricanes maintained their double-digit advantage.

Yasmine Brown and Kashara Simpson added a basket before the final buzzer.

UP NEXT

Chowan has their home opener on Wednesday, November 16 against Virginia State.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
