MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team battled their way to a five set victory over Converse behind the strong effort by the Hawks in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Diana Rodriguez broke the school-record for digs in a single-game posting 45 digs. Rodriguez broke the previous record of 42 held by three Hawks.
Ellie Middleton and Alexa Woolson once again posted double-doubles in the contest. Middleton tallied 14 kills and 23 digs, while Woolson posted 27 assists and 11 digs. Sydney Ginaitt posted a career-high 24 assists.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez (14 kills), Nia Baskin (11 kills), and Chloe Putnam (10 kills) had double-digit kills. Hadley Prince posted 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ellie Middleton, Chloe Putnam, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Nia Baskin collected kills to open the scoring. Putnam served up an ace before Middleton and Madison Hall tallied a kill each to close the gap to 17-16. Putnam and Middleton added a kill but was unable to pull the Hawks back as Converse took the opening set 25-20.
Brianna Moye sparked a 7-1 run in the second set to allow the Hawks to gain the momentum as Moye registered a kill. Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, Sydney Ginaitt, and Ellie Middleton added a kill during the run. Converse rallied to regain the lead and then stretch the lead to 19-14. Putnam and Middleton helped the Hawks move back to even before regaining the lead at 23-21. An assisted block by Moye and Nia Baskin closed out the set to even the match.
Nia Baskin gave the Hawks the spark in the third set posting four kills and an assisted block to open the set. Haydon Ahlers, Ellie Middleton and Baskin added a kill to push the lead to 11-5. A 6-0 run by the Hawks pushed the lead to 19-9 as Anixa Rosa-Martinez added two kills along with three service aces by Diana Rodriguez. Chloe Putnam finished off the 25-12 set win with a kill.
The fourth set featured a back-and-forth affair as Converse found the final four points in the sets off Chowan miscues to force a fifth set.
Nia Baskin opened the set with a kill followed by a ball handling error by the Valkyries. Ellie Middleton and Baskin added a kill to lead 4-2. Converse evened the set at 4-all before a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Kolleen Priest along with a block by Chloe Putnam put the Hawks up 8-4. Converse closed the gap to 9-8 before a kill by Middleton and Priest pushed the lead back to 12-9. Rosa-Martinez finished off the victory with a pair of kills to take the set, 15-13.
