CU Volleyball Slips Against Vikings

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team picked up the opening set before falling to their rivals, Elizabeth City State, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

Alexa Woolson recorded her fifth straight double-double and sixth overall after posting 18 assists and 14 digs.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with 12 kills.  Chloe Putnam and Madison Hall added eight kills each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After conceding the opening point, Chowan scored the next seven points to lead 7-1.  Ellie Middleton, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Alexa Woolson, and Madison Hall notched a kill during the run.  Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam tacked on a pair of kills before Middleton put the Hawks up 16-8.  Nia Baskin sparked a run that put the Hawks up 21-10.  Rosa-Martinez started the final rally with a kill followed by a block by Putnam before Diana Rodriguez finished off the set with a service ace to take the opening set 25-13.

Nia Baskin and Madison Hall opened the scoring in the second set before Chloe Putnam added a pair of kills and one by Brianna Moye closed the gap to 8-6.  Elizabeth City went on an 8-1 run to lead 17-8 before Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill.  ECSU would finish off the set 25-13.

Nia Baskin opened the third set with a kill and a block to put the Hawks up 4-1.  The Vikings rallied to even the score as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam put the Hawks back on top, 8-6.  After a block by Madison Hall and Baskin, the Vikings rallied to score four straight points to lead 19-13.  A kill by Ellie Middleton finished off the scoring for the Hawks as ECSU took the third set 25-21.

The Vikings opened up the fourth set on a 7-2 run as Nia Baskin collected both kills.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a pair of kills along with a kill by Madison Hall cut the deficit to 9-5.  Chloe Putnam added a pair of kills as the Vikings doubled up the Hawks 14-7.  Putnam, Hall, Rosa-Martinez, and Ellie Middleton added a kill down the stretch as ECSU finished off the match.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns to the court on Wednesday, October 12 as the Hawks welcome another rival, Barton, in Conference Carolinas action.  First serve is slated for 6pm.
