Middleton And Woolson Leads Hawks Past Warriors

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Ellie Middleton and Alexa Woolson collected double-doubles in the 3-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Ellie Middleton posted 16 kills and 14 digs to lead the Hawks with her first double-double of the season.  Alexa Woolson notched a career-high 34 assists and 12 digs for her third straight double-double.  Woolson also collected seven aces.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez tallied 13 kills, while Chloe Putnam added nine kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Chowan scored the opening five points of the match as Ellie Middleton started the match with a kill followed by a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez.  Middleton and Rosa-Martinez were much of the scoring for the Hawks trading kills until Alexa Woolson added a pair of service aces and Hadley Prince, Nyah Powers, and Chloe Putnam joined the mix.  Chowan would extend their lead to 18-9 before Southern Wesleyan took advantage of the miscues.  Nia Baskin, Madison Hall, Rosa-Martinez, and Middleton finished off the set with a kill to avoid the comeback, 25-20.

Southern Wesleyan took the momentum that was gained in the first set and grabbed control in the second set to even the match at one set each with the 25-20 victory.

The Warriors jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the third set before a pair of service aces by Diana Rodriguez and a kill by Ellie Middleton closed the gap to 13-10.  SWU moved the lead to 16-12 before a 7-0 run by the Hawks sparked by a Middleton kill gave the Hawks the 18-16 advantage.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez collected four kills in the run along with a kill by Chloe Putnam and Nyah Powers.  Nia Baskin contributed two kills before Rosa-Martinez and Madison Hall finished off the set with a kill each, 25-20.

Alexa Woolson started off the fourth set with a service ace as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Nyah Powers added a pair of kills each.  Chowan gained control of the set and match with a 12-0 run in the middle of the set.  Chloe Putnam started the run with a kill followed by a kill by Ellie Middleton and an ace by Woolson to force the first timeout.  Diana Rodriguez and Middleton added a kill along with another ace by Woolson forced the second timeout.  Middleton added a pair of kills and Putnam added a pair of kills to put the Hawks up 23-11.
