MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team battled tough against the Conference Carolinas East Divisional leader in league action on Tuesday evening.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the Hawks with 10 kills, while Ellie Middleton collected nine kills. Middleton and Chloe Putnam posted four assisted blocks.
Nia Baskin recorded two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Diana Rodriguez tallied 24 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nia Baskin put the Hawks on the board with a kill before Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill to put the Hawks up 4-3 early. Ellie Middleton and Rosa-Martinez pushed the lead to 12-9 with kills before a block by Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam kept the Hawks in front, 15-14. Putnam added a kill before Baskin and Middleton posted an assisted block. Chowan closed the gap to 21-20 on a pair of errors before the Trojans finished off the back-and-forth set 25-20.
UMO opened the second set on a 6-2 run as Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill. Middleton added a pair of kills to keep pace with the Trojans as Middleton, Chloe Putnam, and Nia Baskin posted a block to trim the deficit to 11-9. Rosa-Martinez, Diana Rodriguez, and Putnam registered a kill to close the gap to 20-19. Middleton evened the score with a service ace along with a kill by Madison Hall. Mount Olive finished off the set 25-23.
Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez started the third set with a kill followed by a kill by Madison Hall and a service ace by Sydney Ginaitt to put the Hawks up 7-3. Chowan stretched its lead to 11-4 on kills by Middleton and Nyah Powers along with a service ace by Hadley Prince. After a block by Nia Baskin and Ellie Middleton to push the lead to 14-8, UMO scored 11 of the next 12 points to take the lead 19-15. Baskin ended the run with a kill as Diana Rodriguez served up a pair of aces to trim the deficit to 19-18. Rosa-Martinez notched a kill as Mount Olive took the set 25-20.
