MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team saw their five-game league win streak come to a close in a tough battle against King on Friday night in the annual Dig Pink contest.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted 12 kills to lead the offense, while Chloe Putnam posting nine kills, Nia Baskin chipped in with eight kills, and Ellie Middleton added seven.
Diana Rodriguez posted 39 digs with Ellie Middleton adding 20. Nia Baskin and Chloe Putnam posted three assisted blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan jumped out to an early lead as Nia Baskin collected a pair of kills. King rallied before a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez sparked a run by the Hawks. Ellie Middleton added a kill and Nyah Powers and Chloe Putnam posted an assisted block to level the score at 10-all. Baskin along with Putnam, and Powers gave the Hawks an 18-17 advantage before Hadley Prince served up an ace and Sydney Ginaitt tallied a setter's kill. Putnam would pick up a kill before Alexa Woolson ended the set with a service ace, 25-20.
King raced out to an early 6-2 advantage as Nia Baskin collected a kill and Baskin and Madison Hall posted a block. Hall picked up a kill along with a pair of kills by Chloe Putnam cut the deficit to 11-6. The Hawks rallied back to even the set at 14-all on a trio of kills by Ellie Middleton and a kill by Nyah Powers. After a kill by Baskin, King scored the next seven of the next eight points to take control of the set, 22-16. A pair of kills by Chloe Putnam closed the gap but a service ace by Putnam was not enough for the comeback as King took the set 25-21.
In a set that featured 10 ties, the Hawks took a slight advantage, 15-12 after kills by Madison Hall, Chloe Putnam, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez. The lead would move to 19-14 on a kill by Rosa-Martinez and Ellie Middleton along with a service ace by Hadley Prince. Chowan would lead 21-6 before King rallied back. Nia Baskin and Ellie Middleton collected a kill as the Tornado posted the final four points in the set to take the set 25-23.
The fourth set featured much of the same as the third set as the Hawks and Tornado were knotted up at 10-all. A four-point run by the Tornado gave King the momentum. Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a trio of kills and Diana Rodriguez added a service ace to close the gap to 17-15. King would fight off the rally to take the final set 25-20.

Chowan returns to the court on Saturday, October 22 as the Hawks host Lees-McRae for Senior Day. Festivities will occur before opening serve at 2pm.
