PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team started the road trip with a straight sets loss to league leading UNC Pembroke on Friday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the Hawks with eight kills on the evening.  Ellie Middleton notched seven kills with five kills in the second set.  Madison Hall posted five kills. 
Natalia Vega-Aponte recorded 24 digs to pace the defense.  Hadley Prince totaled 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Madison Hall and Katie Houston put the Hawks up 2-1 early before an 8-1 run pushed the Braves ahead 9-3.  Houston slowed the run with a kill and Ellie Middleton recorded an ace.
Nyah Powers notched a pair of kills to force a timeout.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills before a run by the Braves.
Anamarie Colon-Calero served up an ace to trim the deficit to 21-14.  Chloe Putnam and Ciara Oretga recorded a kill prior to the Braves finding the final points of the set, 25-19.
Second Set:
UNC Pembroke opened the set quickly with a 9-4 advantage.  Madison Hall, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Ellie Middleton and Chloe Putnam recorded a kill.
Chowan would rally with a 6-1 run as Chloe Putnam and Ellie Middleton sparked the rally with a kill.  Natalie Vega-Aponte served up an ace to cut into the deficit, 9-7.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez traded a kill with the Braves before a service ace by Ciara Ortega and a kill by Rosa-Martinez evened the score at 10-all.
The Braves countered with an 8-1 run.  Ellie Middleton slowed the run with a kill before Anamarie Colon-Calero recorded a kill.  Middleton posted another kill prior to Middleton and Chloe Putnam teamed up for a block.
A pair of errors by the Braves closed the gap to 18-17.  Ellie Middleton tallied a block before a block by Chloe Putnam evened the score at 19-all.
Nyah Powers and Madison Hall teamed up for a block to hand the Hawks the lead, 21-20.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez kept the Hawks close with a kill.  UNC Pembroke found the final three points to take the contested set 25-22.
Third Set:
Madison Hall started the set off with a kill to spark a rally.  Anamarie Colon-Calero registered a block along a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ellie Middleton to put the Hawks up 6-0.
After a kill by the Braves, UNCP trimmed the deficit to 9-7.  Ellie Middleton recorded an ace to put the Hawks up 11-7 before another rally by the Braves to take the lead 13-11 and force a timeout.
Haydon Ahlers tallied a kill to slow the run before Madison Hall notched a kill to cut the deficit to 17-13.  Hall posted another kill before Ellie Middleton notched a kill.
Ellie Middleton and Anamarie Colon-Calero recorded a block before Chloe Putnam notched a kill.
UNCP would finish off the set and match with a 25-18 set win.

Chowan continues the road trip as the Hawks will face Francis Marion on Saturday in Florence at 2pm.
