MURFREESBORO, N.C. – For the first time since joining the Conference Carolinas, the Chowan Volleyball team won their league opener with a 3-0 victory over Mount Olive at home on Tuesday evening.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the balanced attack with 10 kills. Madison Hall would post eight kills, while Katie Houston had six kills, and Chloe Putnam notched five kills. Hall chipped in with three assisted blocks.
Ciara Oretga registered 26 assists. Natalia Vega-Aponte recorded 30 digs, while Hadley Prince notched eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Mount Olive opened the match with three straight points before a pair of blocks by Katie Houston and Anamarie Colon-Calero handed the lead to the Hawks 4-3.
Katie Houston posted three straight kills followed by a block by Chloe Putnam and Madison Hall allowed the Hawks to lead 11-9.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez sparked a run with Ciara Ortega serving to three kills to lead 17-10. Chloe Putnam added a kill before another run by the Hawks.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez started the run with a kill followed by a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero and finished off by Rosa-Martinez for the 25-16 victory.
Second Set:
Both teams traded points until three errors aided the Hawks to a 10-5 lead. Nyah Powers posted a kill and Natalia Vega-Aponte posted an ace.
Ciara Ortega notched an ace along with a kill by Madison Hall and Anamarie Colon-Calero put the Hawks up 15-10.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, and Madison Hall recorded a kill to stretch the lead to 21-16.
A block by Madison Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez fueled the run as Rosa-Martinez and Katie Houston finished off the 25-21 set win with a kill.
Third Set:
Madison Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez grabbed the momentum early with a kill. Chloe Putnam and Katie Houston added with a kill each.
Madison Hall and Nyah Powers teamed up for a block before Anixa Rosa-Martinez registered a kill to lead 13-8.
The Hawks would continue with the momentum as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero registered a block. Madison Hall posted the final four kills in the set to complete the sweep.
