MURFREESBORO, N.C. – In front of the home crowd for the first time this fall, the Chowan Volleyball team battled against Fayetteville State in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led all players with 15 kills on the evening.  Anamarie Colon-Calero posted six kills.
Hadley Prince posted a career-high 18 digs, while Natalia Vega-Aponte led the Hawks with 26 digs.
Chowan posted six service aces, but was countered with 7.0 total blocks by Fayetteville State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan jumped out to an early 5-1 lead as Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted the first kill.  Katie Houston followed up with a kill before Hadley Prince registered an ace.
Fayetteville State rallied to take an 11-8 lead as Madison Hall tallied a kill along with a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez to trim the deficit to one, 12-11.
A four point spurt allowed the Broncos to lead 19-15, but Alonda Rivera-Miranda notched a kill and a pair of miscues by the Broncos cut the deficit to 22-20.
Fayetteville State posted a block to finish off the set 25-21.
Second Set:
Fayetteville State used the momentum to lead 8-1 as Anamarie Colon-Calero tallied the lone kill.
The Hawks would rally to cut into the deficit as Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills along with a block by Anamarie Colon-Calero and Katie Houston.
Chowan would force a timeout by the Broncos as the set evened at 12-all.  Katie Houston posted a kill and Anamarie Colon-Calero served up an ace.
Fayetteville State stretched their lead to 19-14 out of the break before a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Madison Hall kept the Hawks close.
Two service aces by Anixa Rosa-Martinez sparked a rally for the Hawks to even the score at 23-all.  The Broncos would find the final two points in the set to lead 2-0.
Third Set:
Anamarie Colon-Calero produced two kills to start the third set along with a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez to lead 5-2.
The Broncos rallied to take the lead despite a kill by Madison Hall, Chloe Putnam, and Nyah Powers.
Two straight kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and a kill by Katie Houston slimmed the deficit to one, 16-15.
Katie Houston and Chloe Putnam tallied a kill as the Broncos held off the rally for the match.

Chowan heads to nearby Elizabeth City to take on Elizabeth City State for the second time this season on Thursday, September 16.  First serve is slated for 6pm.
