CHARLESTON, W.VA. – The Chowan Volleyball team picked up another split on the final day of the Charleston Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday.
The Hawks picked up a 3-0 win against Winston-Salem State before falling to the host Charleston.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the Hawks with 21 kills.  Anamarie Colon-Calero notched 15 kills.  Rosa-Martinez posted five aces.
Ciara Ortega tallied 38 assists, while Alondra Rivera-Miranda tallied 15.
Natalia Vega-Aponte posted 32 digs, with Hadley Prince posting 15.  Nyah Powers picked up four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 3, Winston-Salem State 0
Chowan started the match with a 4-0 run as Natalia Vega-Aponte started off the match with a kill along with an ace by Hadley Prince.
Anamarie Colon-Calero, Katie Houston, Chloe Putnam, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted kills to push the lead to 13-10.
Chloe Putnam, Katie Houston, and Anamarie Colon-Calero sparked a run to put the Hawks in front 20-14 with a kill each.
The Hawks would finish off the set with a pair of kills and a pair of blocks for the 25-17 set victory.
In the second set, Anixa Rosa-Martinez started a rally with a kill followed up with a kill by Chloe Putnam and an ace by Rosa-Martinez to lead 6-2.
Madison Hall notched a kill before a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero pushed the advantage to 23-8.
Chloe Putnam and Anamarie Colon-Calero finished off the dominating 25-9 set with a kill.
The third set continued in the way for the Hawks as Anamarie Colon-Calero, Katie Houston, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill each to start the set.
Winston-Salem State rallied in the third set to lead for most of the set with the Rams not leading by more than a couple.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills to hand the Hawks the advantage before a Chloe Putnam blocked sealed the set and match.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with nine kills followed by Ellie Middleton with six kills.  Natalia Vega-Aponte posted a team-high 16 digs.
The Hawks would drop the opening set 25-18 and rally to fall short 26-24 in the second set.  Charleston would finish off the match with a 25-9 third set.

Chowan will have their home opener on Tuesday, September 14 as the Hawks host Fayetteville State in a non-conference match.  First serve has been moved back to 7pm instead of the original start time of 6pm.
