MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer program continued to make a name for themselves as three current players along with the coaching staff and an incoming player have excelled in the USL 2 and NPSL Summer Leagues.
In the USL 2 league, Toby Sims helped lead the SC United Bantams to an 11-1-2 overall record and a Deep South Division title. Sims tallied two goals and one assist from his backline position while aiding in five shutouts.
The Chowan coaching staff of Chris Whalley and Luke Staats led the Lionsbridge FC to a 9-3-2 overall record and second in the South Atlantic Division table. Staats, in a player/coach role appeared in six matches while scoring two goals.
Both SC United and Lionsbridge FC served as the hosts for the quarterfinals and semifinals on July 16-18.
Harri Lovett, playing for Wake FC in Holly Springs, N.C. tallied two assists in 11 matches this summer including an assist against Coach Whalley's Lionsbridge squad.
In the NPSL league, Dennis Bates and newcomer Thomas De Graauw competed for the newly formed Appalachian FC. Appalachian FC went 4-3-4 during their inaugural season as Dennis Bates posted nine starts along with Thomas De Graauw registering one goal in seven starts.
