CENTRAL, S.C. – Caleb Peterson spun a gem in game two as the Chowan Baseball team picked up their first Conference Carolinas win of the season in a split against Southern Wesleyan on the road on Friday.

Tyler West went 4-9 at the plate with a home run, a triple and two RBI. Ethan Whelan went 2-2 in the nightcap with three RBI. Jeffrey Hiner, Joe Nelms, Tyler Jones, and Trenton Lee picked up two hits each. Jones added a home run and three RBI.
Caleb Peterson turned in a career performance tossing 7.0 strong innings with 10 strikeouts allowing one earned run off four hits.
Jarret Henderson tossed a scoreless outing while striking out two. Slade Cowan tossed two innings allowing an unearned run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, Southern Wesleyan 8
The Hawks jumped on the board in the top of the first inning as Ty Johnson led off the day with a walk. Tyler West hit a single to left before the pair produced a double steal. Dallas Trevena recorded a RBI fielder's choice. Jeffrey Hiner loaded the bases with a walk but was left stranded.
Southern Wesleyan rallied in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs off two hits to lead 4-1. The Warriors would add a run in the bottom of the second on a hit and a pair of passed balls to lead 5-1.
Jeffrey Hiner picked up a single in the fourth before a double play wiped out the runner.
SWU tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-1. Chowan answered with a run in the fifth inning as Trenton Lee led off the inning with a single up the middle. Patrick Krack drew a walk before Lee and Krack swiped the preceding bases. Ty Johnson hit a sac fly to score Lee before Tyler West produced an infield single to put runners on the corners. The inning would end on a ground out.
The Warriors posted the final tally in the sixth inning on a hit and two errors to finish off the 8-2 victory.
Game Two: Chowan 11, Southern Wesleyan 3
Chowan would get the bats going early in the nightcap as Trenton Lee and Joe Nelms picked up base hits as Tyler West drew a walk to load the bases on the first three batters of the game. Tyler Jones singled to left field to plate a pair before Jeffrey Hiner drew a walk to load the bases again. Ethan Whelan delivered a two RBI single up the middle to lead 4-0.
Caleb Peterson picked up two strikeouts in a quick first inning. The Hawks would continue to give run support into the second inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Trenton Lee drew a walk before scoring on Tyler West's triple to right field. West would come around to score on Dallas Trevena's double to left. Tyler Jones drew a walk before Jeffrey Hiner loaded the bases with a single. Ethan Whelan drew a walk to plate Trevena before Justin Winslow plated a run on a RBI infield single. Patrick Krack reached on a fielder's choice that plated Hiner.
The Warriors recorded their first hit to lead off the second inning before a strikeout and ground out ended the inning. SWU would get a runner to third in the third inning after a two-out walk along with a wild pitch and stolen base. Caleb Peterson picked up the punchout to end the threat.
Tyler Jones extended the lead in the fourth with a lead-off home run. Ethan Whelan, Justin Winslow, and Patrick Krack loaded the bases on free passes before failing to advance any further.
Caleb Peterson sailed through the fourth and fifth innings picking up six straight outs. The Warriors would break up the shutout in the sixth inning as an error led to an unearned run with two runners on. SWU added another run to cut into the deficit 10-2. Peterson finished off the inning with a strikeout.
Tyler West gave the Hawks one of those runs back with a solo home run to lead off the seventh.
SWU posted the final tally in the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning.
