MARS HILL, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team picked up a split in non-conference action on the road against Mars Hill on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Delaney Devor and Hannah Eden picked up three hits. Both posted a double with three RBI, while Eden hit her first home run as a Hawk.
Mikayla Luskin, Paige Wilhelm, and Meredith Morgan tallied two hits each. Kaitlin Brunelli hit her third home run of the season.
Megan Vincent picked up the win in the circle in the nightcap allowing two unearned runs off seven hits and six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 3, Mars Hill 5
Chowan jumped on the board in the top of the first inning as Hannah Eden led off the game with a double to right. Mikayla Luskin singled before Jesse Gentry hit a sac fly to score the opening run.
Mars Hill countered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run with two outs after an error to lead off the inning.
The Hawks would answer in the second inning as Meredith Morgan produced a single to start the inning. Delaney Devor doubled to center to plate Morgan to even the score at 2-all.
Bailey Wilcox would settle in during the middle innings. Paige Wilhelm sparked a rally in the fourth inning with a one-out triple. Delaney Devor hit what would have been a sac fly to left, but an error allowed Wilhelm to score with ease to lead 3-2.
The Lions answered with a two run fourth inning to regain the lead 4-3. MHU added a run in the fifth inning on a solo home run.
EmaRae Flores picked up the final four outs in the contest in relief.
Game Two: Chowan 7, Mars Hill 2
Hannah Eden and Jesse Gentry picked up singles in the first inning of game two but was left stranded.
Kelsey Sonntag was hit by a pitch in the second followed by a Delaney Devor single but was unable to scratch across a run.
The Hawks were able to get on the scoreboard in the third inning as Mikayla Luskin and Katlin Brunelli drew walks. Meredith Morgan doubled to left to plate Luskin for the opening tally of the contest.
Two singles and an error in the third had Mars Hill threatening, but Megan Vincent pitched out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out.
In the fourth inning, Chowan added a run as Kelsey Sonntag was hit by a pitch and Delaney Devor drew a walk. After a double play, Mikayla Luskin hit a double to left field to score Devor from second to lead 2-0.
Chowan exploded for five runs in the fifth inning on four hits and two errors to lead 7-0. Kaitlin Brunelli led off the inning with a solo blast. Hannah Naifeh singled before Meredith Morgan reached on an error. MHU was able to pick up two outs before Delaney Devor singled home Naifeh. Hannah Eden hit a three-run home run to left to give the Hawks the 7-0 advantage.
Mars Hill scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning as a two-out error allowed both runners to score.
