BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team dropped a four set match to Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday.

Katie Houston produced her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and posted 15 digs. Ciara Ortega posted a double-double with 28 assists and 13 digs.
Hannah Sladick chipped in with 10 kills. Natalia Vega-Aponte led the defense with 29 digs. Meghan Mutter notched 13 digs.
Anamarie Colon-Calero posted six kills with two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set: Chowan 17, Belmont Abbey 25
Ciara Ortega and Hannah Sladick tallied the opening kills for the Hawks as Belmont Abbey led 11-4. Katie Houston notched a kill before Nyah Powers and Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill each to move the score to 16-8.
Attack errors allowed the Hawks to move closer to the Crusaders as a block by Ciara Ortega and Anamarie Colon-Calero sparked a rally. Katie Houston notched back-to-back kills to trim the deficit to 22-17.
Belmont Abbey found the final three points of the set, 25-17.
Second Set: Chowan 16, Belmont Abbey 25
Chowan led 4-1 early in the set on a kill by Nyah Powers and two solo blocks by Anamarie Colon-Calero.
Nyah Powers, Ciara Ortega and Hannah Sladick picked up a kill as the Crusaders rallied to even the score at 9-all.
A three point run by the Crusaders was countered by an assisted bock by Anamarie Colon-Calero and Katie Houston along with a kill by Colon-Calero. BAC answered with a four point run to lead 17-13.
Anamarie Colon-Calero and Hannah Sladick posted a kill each to end the set as BAC finishes off the set 25-16.
Third Set: Chowan 25, Belmont Abbey 21
After an opening kill by the Crusaders, Chowan rattled off five straight points to lead 5-1. Nyah Powers posted two kills and one by Anamarie Colon-Calero. Colon-Calero notched another kill before BAC went on a small run to draw the score to 7-5.
Hannah Sladick posted two kills followed by a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero and service ace by Ciara Ortega to lead 14-9.
Belmont Abbey rallied with a 10-2 run to lead 19-16. Hannah Sladick ended the run with a kill.
Trailing 21-19, Katie Houston posted two kills and a block along with an ace by Meghan Mutter to rally for the 25-21 set victory.
Fourth Set: Chowan 15, Belmont Abbey 25
Katie Houston posted the opening kill in the set before Belmont Abbey jumped out to an 11-3 lead and forced a timeout.
Hannah Sladick posted a kill before a pair by Katie Houston cut the deficit in half, 14-7. Ciara Ortega and Houston notched a kill along with attack errors pushed the Hawks forward.
Alexa Woolson and Meghan Mutter recorded a service ace each down the stretch before the Crusaders took the set and match.
