MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team hosted a home match for the first time in over 400 days and battled with the top-team in the Conference Carolinas in a 3-1 loss to Emmanuel on Friday evening.

Ciara Ortega notched a double-double with 21 assists and 15 digs. Hannah Sladick posted a team-high nine kills along with 10 digs.
Anamarie Colon-Calero recorded seven kills and two solo blocks. Natalia Vega-Aponte tallied a team-high 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set: Chowan 17, Emmanuel 25
The Hawks would jump out to an early 4-1 lead after a kill by Hannah Sladick and one by Katie Houston.
Chowan would hold a slim advantage as both teams traded attack errors. Anamarie Colon-Calero and Hannah Sladick tallied a kill each to lead 11-8.
Emmanuel went on a small rally to lead 12-11 before a kill by Hannah Sladick and Nyah Powers gave the lead back to the Hawks 13-12.
Chloe Putnam tallied a kill before the Lions pushed out in front 19-15. Anamarie Colon-Calero registered a solo block and a kill down the stretch as Emmanuel took the opening set.
Second Set: Chowan 20, Emmanuel 25
Emmanuel raced out to an early 5-1 lead prior to Nyah Powers registering the only kill during an error riddled segment. Hannah Sladick and Chloe Putnam posted a kill each to trail 11-10.
Chowan would go on a run as Chloe Putnam sparked the rally with a kill aided by four errors by the Lions and a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero to lead 16-14.
Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill before Emmanuel finished off the set with a 25-20 win.
Third Set: Chowan 25, Emmanuel 23
Anamarie Colon-Calero and Katie Houston sparked the offense in the third set. Hannah Sladick notched a pair of kills to trail 9-6.
Emmanuel continued to struggle keeping the ball in play as the Hawks climbed back into the contest 17-15, thanks to errors and a service ace by Anamarie Colon-Calero.
Hannah Sladick registered two kills and Katie Houston posted one kill as the errors gave the Hawks a 25-23 set victory.
Fourth Set: Chowan 21, Emmanuel 25
Anamarie Colon-Calero started off the set with a solo block along with a service ace by Alexa Woolson gave the Hawks a 2-0 start early.
Emmanuel led 8-4 before a string of kills by Chloe Putnam, Katie Houston, and Hannah Sladick cut the deficit to 8-7.
Katie Houston and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched a kill before Ciara Ortega served the Hawks to five straight points along with two aces to lead 19-17.
Chloe Putnam tried to slow the Lion rally with a kill but Emmanuel tallied the final four points in the set to take the set and match.
