MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team continued their resilience after fighting back to split their doubleheader against Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.

Serena Riley led the Hawks with three hits and two RBI. Haleigh Reid, Delaney Devor, Jesse Gentry, and Kaitlin Brunelli picked up two hits each. Reid tallied two RBI, while Devor, Gentry, Brunelli and Mikayla Luskin picked up one.
EmaRae Flores pitched three innings of scoreless softball in game one. Megan Vincent pitched a complete game in the nightcap with nine strikeouts to pick up the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, Lees-McRae 5
Lees-McRae would strike in the top of the first for a pair of runs on three hits including two with two outs.
The Hawks answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Hannah Eden doubled to left field to lead off the inning. Delaney Devor moved Eden to third on a sac bunt before Serena Riley singled to right center to plate Eden to trail 2-1.
Chowan looked to find the tying run in the second as Jesse Gentry reached on an infield single and moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. LMC picked up a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
LMC tried to stretch the lead in the third with a two-out double before a single allowed Delaney Devor to throw out the runner at the plate to end the inning.
The Bobcats scored three runs on three hits and an error in the fourth to push their lead to 5-1.
The Hawks rallied in the sixth inning as Delaney Devor reached on an infield single. Devor swiped second before a RBI single by Kaitlin Brunelli closed the gap to 5-2.
Game Two: Chowan 7, Lees-McRae 4
Once again, Lees-McRae scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, 2-0.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the first inning to plate four runs to take the lead 4-2. Hannah Eden started off the inning with a walk before the bases were loaded on a Serena Riley and Kaitlin Brunelli single. Jesse Gentry placed a ball into no-man's land between first and second allowing Eden to score. An errant throw home allowed Riley to score on the play and move runner's into scoring position. Haleigh Reid doubled to right field to plate Brunelli and Gentry.
LMC answered with a run in the second inning to close the gap to 4-3. Megan Vincent and the defense kept the Bobcats at-bay until the sixth inning as LMC scored the tying run with two outs, 4-all.
The Hawks used a bit of two-out magic to rally in the sixth. Haleigh Reid singled to left field to spark the rally. Courtney Lamb drew a walk before Mikayla Luskin singled up the middle to plate the pinch-running Madison Dilday from second for the go-ahead run. Hannah Eden and Delaney Devor drew a pair of walks to load the bases and plate a run. Serena Riley delivered the final blow with a single up the middle to plate Luskin to lead 7-4.
Megan Vincent slammed the door shut with a pair of strikeouts to end the game.
