MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team was swept by their rivals Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening on the road.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the Hawks with seven kills and 13 digs. Anamarie Colon-Calero and Hannah Sladick tallied five kills each.
Natalie Vega-Aponte paced the defense with 23 digs. Katie Houston chipped in with 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set: Chowan 20, Mount Olive 25
Katie Houston and Anamarie Colon-Calero picked up a kill to start the contest. The Trojans rallied to lead 10-7 before Colon-Calero recorded a kill.
Katie Houston, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, and Hannah Sladick registered a kill each to even the score at 15-all.
Katie Houston and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched a kill to keep pace before a 7-1 run pushed the disadvantage to 23-19. Hannah Sladick posted a block prior to Mount Olive taking the opening set 25-20.
Second Set: Chowan 26, Mount Olive 28
Nyah Powers and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill to lead 5-1 early in the set. A pair of kills by Rosa-Martinez and a service ace by Natalia Vega-Aponte pushed the lead to 10-5.
Following miscues on both sides, Anamarie Colon-Calero notched a kill to lead 15-9. The Trojans rallied with a 10-1 run to take the lead 19-16. Colon-Calero recorded another kill and Hannah Sladick posted a kill to even the score at 19-all.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill before a kill by Hannah Sladick closed the gap to 24-23. The Trojans recorded the final two points in the set to take the set 28-26.
Third Set: Chowan 17, Mount Olive 25
Katie Houston and Chloe Putnam picked up a kill each to lead 4-3 early. Another kill by Putnam and a pair of kills by Hannah Sladick moved the score to 10-9.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills before a run by the Trojans forced a timeout, 18-16. Ciara Ortega tallied a kill for the final tally for the Hawks.
