MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team came up short in a Conference Carolinas battle with Converse on Friday night at home.

Katie Houston posted a career-high 15 kills to go along with 26 digs for her third double-double of the season. Hannah Sladick matched a career-high with 12 kills.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez tallied nine kills to go with 23 digs. Natalia Vega-Aponte registered a career-high 41 digs, one shy of the all-time program mark.
Ciara Ortega notched 28 assists, while Alexa Woolson dished out 17 assists and three service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One: Chowan 29, Converse 27
Katie Houston started the scoring with a kill to open the contest. Hannah Sladick would move the score in favor of the Hawks after a kill and a service ace. Anixa Rosa-Martinez put the Hawks up 6-4 with a kill.
The Hawks would lead 10-5 after a service ace by Alexa Woolson and a kill by Chloe Putnam.
Hannah Sladick, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Chloe Putnam tallied a kill as the score closed to 17-15.
Katie Houston posted three kills as the score moved to 24-all. Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam registered a kill each before Rosa-Martinez tallied a kill prior to Houston finishing off the set with a pair of kills.
Set Two: Chowan 17, Converse 25
The Hawks would jump out to an early 4-1 lead as Natalia Vega-Aponte was able to find a hole in the defense for a kill. Katie Houston and Anixa Rosa-Martinez registered a kill along with a service ace by Ciara Ortega.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez helped spark a four point run capped off by an Alexa Woolson service ace to lead 9-4.
Converse countered with a 14-2 run with Anixa Rosa-Martinez posting the lone kill during the offensive stall.
Anamarie Colon-Calero, Katie Houston, and Hannah Sladick picked up a kill to close the gap to 22-15.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam notched a kill before the Valkyries took the set.
Set Three: Chowan 22, Converse 25
Hannah Sladick posted the lone kill to open the set as Converse led 7-1. Nyah Powers ended the run with a kill prior to a service ace by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and kills by Katie Houston, Chloe Putnam, and Anamarie Colon-Calero closed the gap to 10-8.
The Hawks would even the score at 13-all after a kill by Hannah Sladick, service ace by Katie Houston, and kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez.
Alexa Woolson and Katie Houston posted a kill before Hannah Sladick tallied a kill. A string of errors by the Valkyries moved the score to 20-all.
Nyah Powers posted a kill before Converse wrapped up the set.
Set Four: Chowan 19, Converse 25
Katie Houston posted the opening two kills for the Hawks in the set along with a kill by Hannah Sladick as Chowan trailed 8-3 early. Houston ended the run with a kill before a service ace by Alexa Woolson and a kill by Chloe Putnam closed the gap to 8-6.
Kills by Katie Houston and Hannah Sladick kept the contest close until Anamarie Colon-Calero and Sladick notched a kill along with a service ace by Houston trimmed the deficit to 14-13.
Hannah Sladick picked up two kills and a kill by Katie Houston would not be enough offense in the set as Converse took the set and match.
