MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team opened their Conference Carolinas road trip with a 3-0 loss to King on Friday evening.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the Hawks with nine kills in the contest. Rosa-Martinez also tallied nine digs. Katie Houston chipped in with six kills and eight digs, while Hannah Sladick and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched five kills each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set: Chowan 10, King 25
King opened up the contest on a 16-5 advantage as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Katie Houston posted two kills each.
The Tornado continued to push ahead, 19-8, despite a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero and a service ace by Alexa Woolson.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted the final kill for the Hawks as King took the opening set, 25-10.
Second Set: Chowan 19, King 25
Chloe Putnam started the set with a kill along with a kill by Katie Houston as King led 8-3 early.
Chowan would go on a run to close the gap to 9-8 as Anamarie Colon-Calero, Katie Houston, and Hannah Sladick tallied a kill.
Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill each to even the score. Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill to keep pace with the Tornado.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero finished off the set with a kill before seeing King take the set 25-19.
Third Set: Chowan 17, King 25
Chloe Putnam tallied the first kill for the Hawks in the set before a pair of kills by Hannah Sladick took the score to 14-7 in favor of the Tornado.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez recorded a kill before Anamarie Colon-Calero and Katie Houston posted a kill to trail 20-12. Rosa-Martinez added a kill along with Houston and Hannah Sladick posting a kill before the final point.
