BRISTOL, TENN. – Defensive miscues proved to be costly in a doubleheader sweep against King on Thursday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Brock Cross paced the Hawks with a 3-5 outing in game two. Noah Cartwright, Noah Evington, and Tyler Jones tallied three hits each in the doubleheader. Dallas Trevena picked up two hits with two RBI. Cartwright, Evington, Trevena and Christian Allen recorded a double.
Timothy Blackman tossed 5.2 innings allowing four unearned runs in game two.
Chowan allowed eight earned runs of the 19 runs scored on six errors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, King 12
Tyler Jones singled through the left side of the infield to start the contest. A double play wiped up the early threat before Noah Cartwright doubled to right center. Dallas Trevena was hit by a pitch and Noah Evington singled to right to load the bases. A groundout ended the inning for the Hawks.
King opened the scoring in the bottom of the inning with a double leading to a wild pitch and a pair of singles. The Tornado plated two runs in the inning.
The miscues would start in the bottom of the second as a fielding error led to a run to give King a 3-0 lead. King pushed their lead to 7-0 in the third inning on five hits.
Noah Cartwright picked up a single in the third along with a hit by pitch by Noah Evington and a single by Trenton Lee for the lone offense.
The Tornado add a run in the fourth before a two out error continued the inning leading to a grand slam for King to lead 12-0.
In the sixth inning, Noah Evington doubled to right field and Trenton Lee reached on an error but was left stranded without a run scoring.
Game Two: Chowan 5, King 7
Dallas Trevena provided a spark in the offense in the top of the second inning as a bid for his fourth home run went off the top of the fence and back into play for a double. Brock Cross singled before a RBI single by Justin Winslow put the Hawks on the board for the first time.
The Tornado loaded the bases in the bottom of the second before Timothy Blackman was able to roll a 5-2-3 double play ball to get out of the inning unscathed.
The Hawks would tack on two more runs in the third inning as Tyler Jones started the inning with a base knock to right center. Noah Evington singled and swiped second before a walk by Noah Cartwright loaded the bases. Dallas Trevena singled home a pair to lead 3-0.
King scratched across a run in the fourth inning as a two-out error led to an unearned run, 3-1.
Brock Cross started the rally in the sixth inning with a single. Trenton Lee reached on an error before Christian Allen doubled to left to plate a run. Ty Johnson would hit a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 5-1 advantage.
The Tornado closed the gap to 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. After getting the opening out of the inning, a single and hit by pitch put the Tornado in scoring position. A ground ball led to an error allowing a run to score. King posted a run on a sac bunt and a balk to cut into the deficit.
The Hawks would load the bases in the top of the seventh, but was unable to plate a run. Noah Cartwright singled before Dallas Trevena was hit by a pitch. Justin Winslow drew a two-out walk before the bags were left loaded.
King took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a single and a walk to start the inning. A failed pick-off attempt and a wild pitch allowed the inning to continue and the Tornado to take the lead, 6-5.
The Tornado added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a solo home run.
Tyler West and Brock Cross picked up singles in the ninth inning and moved into scoring position but was left stranded.

Chowan and King are scheduled to wrap up the series on Friday, March 12. First pitch has yet to be determined because of impending inclement weather.
