Chowan Swept By Crusaders In Series Finale

BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped the final two games of the series against Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Noah Cartwright picked up two hits and three RBI in the doubleheader with a home run and a double.

Tyler Jones recorded up two hits and two walks.  Patrick Krack tallied two hits and a RBI in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 4, Belmont Abbey 7

Tyler Jones led off the inning by reaching on a drop third strike and stole second.  Noah Cartwright recorded a two-run home run to left field to put the Hawks on the board in the first inning.

Jeffrey Hiner would lead off the second inning reaching on an error but would be left stranded.

The Crusaders would post a run in the third and fourth innings to knot the contest at 2-all.  Patrick Krack would throw out a runner at third to end the inning.

Ty Johnson picked up a one out walk in the fifth inning.  Tyler Jones picked up a two-out single before Patrick Krack drew a walk to load the bases.  A ground out ended the threat for the Hawks.

Dallas Trevena and Noah Evington picked up base hits to open up the sixth inning.  The Hawks would benefit from a throwing error by the pitcher to plate Trevena after Jeffrey Hiner reached on a fielder's choice to take the lead.  Christian Allen laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Evington to score to lead 4-2.

Belmont Abbey would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs as a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch put the Crusaders on top 5-4.  A series of wild pitches allowed Belmont Abbey to push their advantage to 7-4.

In the seventh inning, Patrick Krack and Noah Cartwright drew one out walks, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat and game.

Game Two: Chowan 3, Belmont Abbey 13

Tyler Jones started the final game of the series with a walk before moving to second on a balk.  Patrick Krack singled to left field allowing Jones to score for the opening run of the contest.

Belmont Abbey looked to get the run back in the bottom half of the inning but a Ryan Gallaccio got out of the jam with a double play.

Brock Cross posted a single up the middle in the second inning before a two-out walk by Trenton Lee.

Patrick Krack would reach to lead off the third inning with an infield single.  Noah Cartwright doubled to center to score Krack from first to lead 2-0.

Belmont Abbey took advantage of the free passes in the bottom of the third after loading the bases with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch.  A walk, sacrifice fly, and a double allowed the Crusaders to take the lead 4-2.

Trenton Lee drew a two-out walk and Tyler Jones doubled to right center.  A wild pitch allowed Lee to score to close the gap to 4-3.

Belmont Abbey rallied again in the fourth inning to lead 8-3 on three hits and two errors.

Hunter Kinion, Tyler Jones, and Brock Cross drew walks as Belmont Abbey pushed their lead to 13-3.

In the ninth inning, Trenton Lee and Lane White picked up singles.

Chowan is scheduled to host Emmanuel on February 26-27 in Conference Carolinas action.  First pitch is slated for 11am on Friday.
