BELMONT, N.C. – The bats were silent for the Chowan Baseball team in their season opener against Belmont Abbey on Friday evening on the road to open up Conference Carolinas action.

Noah Cartwright tallied the lone hit in game one. Tyler Jones and Noah Evington recorded a double each in game two. Ty Johnson record a hit and a run. Patrick Krack tallied a RBI.
Belmont Abbey had the Hawks' number posting 29 strikeouts in the doubleheader and limiting the Hawks to four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, Belmont Abbey 6
Shane Rademacher allowed a lead-off double in the first inning but was able to leave the runner stranded with a pair of flyouts and a ground out. Rademacher would get out of the jam in the second inning after loading the bases with a pair of walks.
Belmont Abbey would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 4-0 on four hits and an error.
Shane Rademacher and the Hawks would post a scoreless inning in the fifth. Belmont Abbey added a pair of runs in the sixth inning to lead 6-0.
Noah Cartwright broke up the no-hitter in the seventh inning with two-outs with a base knock to right. Cartwright moved to second on a passed ball before being stranded to end the contest.
Game Two: Chowan 1, Belmont Abbey 3
Noah Evington picked up a two-out double in the top of the second inning before being left stranded.
After a pair of quick innings, Belmont Abbey posted the opening run of the contest on a pair of runs and a failed pickoff attempt to lead 1-0.
Chowan would even the score in the top of the sixth inning as Ty Johnson recorded a one-out single. Tyler Jones doubled to left field to put two runners in scoring position. Patrick Krack produced a RBI ground out to score the run.
Belmont Abbey would regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth as walk and a triple broke the tie. A sacrifice fly pushed the Crusader lead to 3-1. Timothy Blackman would get out of the jam without any more damage with a double play.
The Crusaders looked to threaten again in the seventh, but Jayden Bailey worked out of the jam of two walks to keep the score at 3-1. Bailey was able to roll a double play in the eighth inning to keep the Crusaders off the board.

Chowan and Belmont Abbey will wrap up the four-game series on Saturday, February 20. First pitch is slated for 1pm for game three. Spectators are not permitted at Belmont Abbey.
