BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to shake the cold shooting as the top-ranked team in the Conference Carolinas, Belmont Abbey, handed the Hawks a 76-61 loss in league action on Tuesday evening.

Destiny Robinson led the Hawks with 13 points, while Emaree Hinton scored a career-high 11 points off the bench. Monique Jones scored 11 points and hauled in six rebounds.
Chowan shot 38.1% (24-63) from the floor including 1-12 from deep. The Hawks was outrebounded 41-27 leading to a plus-nine advantage for Belmont Abbey.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins put the Hawks on the board before a bucket by Aniah Patterson and Demetria Bland put the Hawks on top early 6-3.
Belmont Abbey would go on a 6-0 run to regain the lead 9-6 as the Hawks went scoreless over the next five minutes. Destiny Robinson ended the run with a jumper to trim the deficit to 9-8.
The Crusaders would added two more buckets before Aniah Patterson hit a jumper to keep pace with the Crusaders, 13-10.
Belmont Abbey would lead 15-10 at the end of the opening quarter.
Second Quarter:
Belmont Abbey pushed their lead to double-digits early in the second stanza with back-to-back threes to lead 21-10 and force a Chowan timeout. Destiny Robinson slowed the run with a layup. The Crusaders added another triple to double up the Hawks.
Keibra Hopkins would go 1-2 from the stripe allowing Destiny Robinson to finish off the second attempt with a putback bucket. Belmont Abbey tallied a pair from the stripe to push their lead back to double-figures, 26-15.
Monique Jones and Emaree Hinton posted a bucket each as Belmont Abbey pushed their advantage to 33-19. Kyani Moore would go 1-2 from the stripe before Aniah Patterson connected from deep to trim the deficit to 33-23.
After a pair from the stripe by the Crusaders, Jahkeria Bagby answered with a pair for the Hawks. Demetria Bland picked up a point at the stripe along with a putback bucket by Emaree Hinton trimmed the deficit to single-digits, 37-28.
The Crusaders posted a 4-0 run to end the half to lead 41-28.
Third Quarter:
Monique Jones posted an offensive rebound and putback to score the opening points of the half for the Hawks. The Crusaders would counter with five quick points before Keibra Hopkins posted a putback bucket. Destiny Robinson scored a layup to keep pace with Belmont Abbey.
Keibra Hopkins hit a jumper from the elbow as the Crusaders increased their lead to 53-36. Emaree Hinton scored a layup off an assist from Demetria Bland. Destiny Robinson added a layup and Bland added a jumper as Belmont Abbey led 60-42.
Emaree Hinton converted the old-fashioned three-point play for the final bucket for the Hawks in the period to trail 62-45.
Fourth Quarter:
Monique Jones scored the first seven points for the Hawks despite a three-pointer by the Crusaders.
Belmont Abbey pushed their lead to the largest of the night, 72-52, with a 7-0 run. Destiny Robinson and Demetria Bland tallied a point apiece from the stripe to slow the Crusader run. Bland posted a jumper from the elbow before a pair of freebies by the Crusaders pushed the advantage to 74-56.
Jazmine Davis picked up a point from the stripe along with a pair from Destiny Robinson inched the Hawks closer. Emaree Hinton recorded a putback for the final basket for the Hawks.

Chowan will travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine in a single contest on Saturday, February 20. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
