MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team picked up their second straight win with a strong defensive effort against Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Demetria Bland paced the offense with 14 points, while Destiny Robinson and Aniah Patterson chipped in with 12 points each. Robinson tallied nine rebounds and three blocks, while Patterson posted six rebounds.
Monique Jones posted six points, four steals, four assists, and four rebounds. Tyaysia Sharpe posted eight points with three steals, three assists, and three rebounds.
The Hawks forced 17 turnovers with 11 steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Emmanuel led 4-3 early as Olivia Gaither went 1-2 from the stripe and Destiny Robinson posted a putback bucket. Robinson added another layup before Tyaysia Sharpe connected from deep to lead 8-6.
Demetria Bland knocked down a pair of jumpers to spark the offense and never looked back. Olivia Gaither added a jumper and Destiny Robinson posted an old-fashioned three-point play to lead 17-14 at the end of the opening quarter.
Second Quarter:
Jahkeria Bagby started the offense in the quarter with a layup followed by a jumper by Tyaysia Sharpe and Demetria Bland to lead 24-16. Bland added a three-pointer before a jumper by Monique Jones pushed the Hawks' lead to double-figures. Sharpe connected from deep to lead 32-18.
Aniah Patterson and Monique Jones contributed a pair of buckets at the end of the half to lead 36-23.
Third Quarter:
After an Emmanuel basket, Monique Jones tallied a pair of free throws and Demetria Bland knocked down a three-pointer. Destiny Robinson and Aniah Patterson connected from the floor to push the advantage to 45-26.
Destiny Robinson and Demetria Bland picked up a pair from the stripe before Aniah Patterson knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to lead 52-33 after three quarters.
Fourth Quarter:
Emmanuel went on an 8-2 run to close the gap slightly before Aniah Patterson and Brianna Copeland connected from deep to push the advantage back to 60-41.
The Lions was unable to bring the score any closer that 16 as Brianna Copeland tallied a pair of free throws to finish off the scoring for the Hawks.
