NORFOLK, VA. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team dropped their exhibition against Norfolk State on Tuesday evening, 81-53.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Aniah Patterson paced the Hawks with 13 points.  Destiny Robinson posted 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks on the night.  Monique Jones collected 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Hawks shot 46.7% in the fourth quarter.  The biggest difference in the contest was the turnover category as Chowan posted 27 turnovers compared to 12 by Norfolk State.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Norfolk State opened up the contest on a 7-0 run as the Hawks missed their opening shots of the game.  Olivia Gaither knocked down a three-pointer to put the Hawks on the board.

Destiny Robinson added a layup before Keibra Hopkins connected from the charity stripe for a pair to cut the deficit to 15-7 at the media timeout.

The Spartans would push their lead to 19-7 before Destiny Robinson added back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to single-digits.  NSU quickly moved the lead back with five quick points, 24-11.

Second Quarter:

Monique Jones started off the quarter with a layup, sparking a 5-0 run.  Demetria Bland added a pair from the stripe to cut the deficit to 24-15.  Olivia Gaither picked up 1-2 from the stripe before the Spartans posted their first points of the quarter.

The Hawks would pick up a point from the stripe by Monique Jones before NSU surged back to a double-digit lead, 31-17.

Monique Jones picked up two more from the stripe before Kandis Johnson added a pull up jumper.  The Spartans would go on a run to double up the Hawks before the half.  Tyaysia Sharpe knocked down a jumper at the buzzer to go into the half down 44-23.

Third Quarter:

Tyaysia Sharpe opened the scoring in the half with a layup before Monique Jones added a bucket.  Aniah Patterson posted back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to 49-31.

Destiny Robinson and Aniah Patterson picked up a point from the charity stripe as the Hawks trailed 53-33.  Robinson hit a hook shot prior to the Spartans leading 60-35 at the end of the quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

After a Spartan bucket, Destiny Robinson knocked down a bucket in the paint before Aniah Patterson dialed up a three-pointer.  Patterson added a point from the stripe prior to Brianna Copeland knocked down a triple, 67-44.

Monique Jones collected a layup following a Hawk miss.  Jones added a freebie as Aniah Patterson knocked down a pair of jumpers.

The Spartans pushed their lead to 81-51 with less than a minute to play.  Tyaysia Sharpe posted the final basket of the game with a layup.
