ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to complete the second half surge in their season opener against Elizabeth City State in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

Destiny Robinson posted her first double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Aniah Patterson added 14 points with five rebounds.
Chowan outscored the Vikings 36-28 after being outscored 35-21 at the half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Olivia Gaither opened the scoring for the Hawks with the opening basket of the contest. Monique Jones would connect from the floor before Elizabeth City State would go 1-4 from the stripe.
The Vikings evened the score up with a three-point play before Destiny Robinson and Monique Jones collected a layup to double the lead, 8-4.
After a pair of Viking free throws, Destiny Robinson posted a putback bucket. Aniah Patterson knocked down a jumper before ECSU went on an 11-1 run to take a 17-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter:
Jahkeria Bagby started the quarter with a bucket before the Vikings went on a 7-0 run. Olivia Gaither knocked down a three pointer before another run to lead 33-18.
Aniah Patterson added a pair from the stripe before Jahkeria Bagby added one before the half as the Hawks trailed 35-21.
Third Quarter:
Destiny Robinson started the scoring for the Hawks in the half with a layup and a pair of freebies at the stripe. Aniah Patterson connected from the floor to keep pace with the Vikings, 41-27, and spark an 11-2 run for the Hawks.
Chowan took advantage of being in the bonus midway through the quarter as Destiny Robinson picked up seven points at the stripe to cut the deficit to 43-34. Tyaysia Sharpe knocked down a jumper before the Vikings ended the run with a layup.
Destiny Robinson collected a putback bucket and Keibra Hopkins picked up a point at the stripe.
Fourth Quarter:
Chowan continued to close the gap as Monique Jones posted a layup to start the quarter, 47-41. Destiny Robinson posted a putback layup before ECSU extended their lead to double-digits.
Aniah Patterson connected from the floor along with a bucket by Destiny Robinson. Emaree Hinton collected a point at the strip to cut the deficit to 57-48 with just over three minutes to play.
Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple before Emaree Hinton added a layup to trim the deficit to 59-53 with just over a minute to play. Patterson added a jumper and Keibra Hopkins added a layup to finish off the scoring as ECSU salted away the win at the stripe.
