MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The fast start faded for the Chowan Volleyball team as the Hawks fell to UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening in the home finale.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the Hawks with 11 kills.  Madison Hall contributed seven kills.  Natalia Vega-Aponte concluded the match with 21 digs, while Hadley Prince tallied 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan started off quickly with a 7-1 run.  After a service error by the Braves, Hadley Prince collected a pair of aces followed by a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero.
Back-to-back kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez put the Hawks up 10-3.  The Braves would rally back to close the gap to 11-8 before evening the match at 13-all.
Chowan would go on another run to lead 19-13 as Anamarie Colon-Calero and Chloe Putnam teamed up for a block.  Three errors by the Braves with a block by Chloe Putnam continued the run before Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a kill before the Braves countered with six straight points to take their first lead of the match 22-20.  Rosa-Martinez and Madison Hall tallied a kill to even the match at 24-all before a pair of errors allowed the Braves to take the opening set 26-24.
Second Set:
The Hawks would swap points with the Braves in the set with Anixa Rosa-Martinez recording the first kill for the Hawks at 4-all.  Anamarie Colon-Calero and Chloe Putnam notched a kill to give the Hawks a 7-5 advantage.
Haydon Ahlers added a kill before Madison Hall collected three kills to keep pace with UNCP.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill as UNCP pushed their lead to 19-14.
Chloe Putnam slowed the run with a kill prior to a kill by Madison Hall evened the score at 20-all.
The Braves would take a 2-0 set lead with a 25-22 victory.
Third Set:
The Hawks would keep pace with the Braves in the beginning of the third set as Anamarie Colon-Calero and Chloe Putnam teamed up for a block.  Putnam added a kill to lead 6-5.
UNCP went on a 12-3 run with Madison Hall posting the lone kill for the Hawks as the Braves led 17-9 and forced a Chowan timeout.
Nyah Powers collected a kill out of the timeout.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez added two kills as the deficit moved to 22-13.
Haydon Ahlers notched the final kill for the Hawks as UNCP took the set 25-15 and the match.
