MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball battled tough against rival Barton in a Conference Carolinas match on Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Ellie Middleton posted eight kills and 15 digs.  Haydon Ahlers recorded a career-high seven kills.  Madison Hall posted nine kills and four aces.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Ciara Ortega notched 25 assists and six digs, while Natalia Vega-Aponte registered 26 digs and a kill.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set:

After the opening points by Barton, Haydon Ahlers put the Hawks on the board with a kill.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills along with an ace by Madison Hall put the Hawks up 4-2.

Haydon Ahlers and Madison Hall notched a kill as the teams traded points throughout the middle of the set.

The Hawks went on a 4-0 run as Haydon Ahlers and Chloe Putnam notched a kill to lead 14-11.  Ahlers and Ellie Middleton tallied a kill to lead 18-14 before a 5-0 run by the Bulldogs handed the lead to Barton 19-18.

Evened up at 20-all, Barton posted four straight points before Madison Hall notched a kill and service ace before the end of the set 25-22.

Second Set:

Madison Hall and Haydon Ahlers got the Hawks' offense rolling early in the set as the Hawks would lead 10-4 after a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and a block by Chloe Putnam.

Ellie Middleton registered a kill before the Bulldogs closed the gap to one, 11-10, with a five point run.  Middleton posted a kill to end the run along with a pair of blocks by Madison Hall and Haydon Ahlers and an ace by Ciara Ortega to lead 15-10.

The runs continued as Barton rattled off four straight to trim the deficit to 15-14.  Madison Hall posted a kill and Natalia Vega-Aponte dropped one in for a kill to lead 18-14.

Barton rallied back to even the score at 21-all.  Chloe Putnam, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Madison Hall notched a kill to swap points late.  Rosa-Martinez posted a kill to give the Hawks a 28-27 advantage before Barton found three straight points to take the set 30-28.

Third Set:

Barton used the momentum to lead 7-2 early.  Chloe Putnam tallied a pair of kills before Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a pair of kills.

The Hawks would rally to even the score at 15-all with a 7-1 run.  Madison Hall posted an ace before Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Haydon Ahlers recorded a kill.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Ellie Middleton, Madison Hall, and Haydon Ahlers registered a kill to keep the Hawks in the set, 22-21.

The Bulldogs finished off the set with a pair of kills and an ace.
