MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Mount Olive on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening.

Natalia Vega-Aponte registered a team-high 31 digs. Hadley Prince posted a career-high 29 digs.
Ciara Ortega notched a double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs. Ellie Middleton notched 18 digs, while Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with 14 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Madison Hall opened up the match with a kill before Mount Olive went on a run to lead 6-2. Anamarie Colon-Calero ended the run with a kill.
The Hawks would close the gap with a kill by Haydon Ahlers, Madison Hall, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez. Ellie Middleton added a service ace to trim the deficit to 9-8.
Back-to-back kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez evened the score at 11-all. Rosa-Martinez, Anamarie Colon-Calero, and Haydon Ahlers notched a kill to keep pace with the Trojans.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Ellie Middleton, and Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill before the Trojans took the opening set 25-21.
Second Set:
Ellie Middleton started the set before a pair of kills by Nyah Powers sparked a run for the Hawks, 8-3.
UMO answered to even the score at 9-all. Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill to regain the lead.
Both teams swapped points before a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero allowed the Hawks to lead 18-16.
Madison Hall and Nyah Powers teamed up for a block prior to a service ace by Natalia Vega-Apointe and a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ellie Middleton to even the set with a 25-21 set victory.
Third Set:
The Hawks would lead 4-1 in the set as Anixa Rosa-Martinez recorded three kills early. Anamarie Colon-Calero and Ellie Middleton posted a block.
The lead would increase to 7-3 after a kill and ace by Anamarie Colon-Calero and a kill by Natalia Vega-Aponte.
The Trojans countered with an 11-1 run to lead 14-8. UMO took the set 25-13 as Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched the lone kill for the Hawks.
Fourth Set:
The Hawks would start fast with a 7-3 lead in the set. Madison Hall started the scoring with a kill. Anamarie Colon-Calero added a kill and a block with Nyah Powers. Katie Houston notched a kill and Anixa Rosa-Martinez added an ace.
Anamarie Colon-Calero tallied a kill before the Hawks doubled up the Trojans 12-6 to force a timeout.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Katie Houston, and Anamarie Colon-Calero added a kill each as UMO trimed the deficit to 19-17.
UMO rallied further to go on a 9-1 run to finish off the set and match. Madison Hall posted a kill during the offensive stall.
