MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team battled against Belmont Abbey in a contested three set match in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Natalia Vega-Aponte paced the Hawks with 28 digs in the match. Ellie Middleton tallied a career-high 17 digs to go with seven kills.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with nine kills and added 11 digs. Madison Hall posted eight kills and eight digs.
Ciara Ortega notched 20 assists and eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Madison Hall, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Haydon Ahlers started the scoring for the Hawks with a pair of kills to lead 9-7.
Chloe Putnam tallied a pair of kills as the teams swapped points throughout the set. Chowan would go on a short three point run with a kill by Ellie Middleton to lead 17-15.
Belmont Abbey rallied to even the score before Ellie Middleton and Nyah Powers posted a kill each.
The Crusaders would go on a pair of spurts to regain the lead and then take the lead and set 26-24.
Second Set:
Belmont Abbey raced out to an early 6-2 lead. Madison Hall posted a pair of kills to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Three kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez, an ace by Alondra Rivera-Miranda and a kill by Haydon Ahlers gave the Hawks an 11-10 advantage.
Ellie Middleton tallied a kill and a service ace to lead 15-13 before a 10-2 run by the Crusaders saw the set move to 23-17.
BAC would take the set 25-20.
Third Set:
The final set featured a back-and-forth affair as both teams rallied. Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Nyah Powers gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead early before a block by Rosa-Martinez moved the score to 6-4.
Chloe Putnam, Ellie Middleton, Haydon Ahlers, Nyah Powers, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Madison Hall tallied a kill in the middle portion of the set to lead 13-12.
Chowan would take a 22-19 advantage with a kill by Nyah Powers and Madison Hall.
Belmont Abbey would rally from a 24-22 deficit to even the score at 26-all before taking the set and match 28-26.
