MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team could not take advantage of three double-doubles in a five set loss to Erskine at home in league action on Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Ellie Middleton notched her second straight double-double with a career-high 18 kills and 25 digs.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched 16 kills and 12 digs for her double-double, while Ciara Ortega had 33 assists and 11 digs for hers.

Natalia Vega-Aponte registered 38 digs and nine assists.  Madison Hall posted 10 kills and eight digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set:

Erskine would lead 4-2 early on errors.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Haydon Ahlers, and Anamarie Colon-Calero registered a kill to even the score.

Trailing 8-5, Chowan went on a small run to take the lead 9-8 as Natalia Vega-Aponte notched a service ace with three Erskine errors.

Madison Hall, Anamarie Colon-Calero, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill to keep pace with the Fleet, 14-all.

Hadley Prince added an ace and Ellie Middleton posted three kills to give the Hawks a 21-19 lead.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill along with an ace by Madison Hall before Ellie Middleton finished off the set with a kill to take the set 25-21.

Second Set:

Erskine opened the set with an 8-3 run as Ellie Middleton notched a kill.  Nyah Powers, Anamarie Colon-Calero and Madison Hall added a kill to close the gap to 11-7.

Ellie Middleton rattled off three straight kills along with an ace to cut the deficit to 14-13.  A pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez evened the score at 17-all.

Anamarie Colon-Calero, Ellie Middleton and Madison Hall added a kill before the Fleet took the set 25-22.

Third Set:

A pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez sparked a run for the Hawks in the set.  Haydon Ahlers added a kill to lead 8-5.

Ellie Middleton, Hadley Prince, Madison Hall, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill to lead 13-11.

After swapping points, Erskine would take a 22-19 lead before a kill by Madison Hall and Anamarie Colon-Calero evened the score at 22-all.

Anamarie Colon-Calero teamed up with Ciara Ortega for a block before Anixa Rosa-Martinez finished off the set with a kill, 25-23.

Fourth Set:

Erskine would take a 12-7 lead in the fourth set and push their advantage to 16-10.  Madison Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez clawed their way back with kills to trim the deficit to 18-14.

The Fleet would force a fifth set with a 25-21 set victory.

Fifth Set:

Haydon Ahlers started the scoring with a kill before a pair of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez.  Alexa Woolson, Ellie Middleton, and Haydon Ahlers kept the score even with a kill.

Erskine posted six of the final seven points to take the set 15-10.
