MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas match at home on Friday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Ellie Middleton notched her first career double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted nine kills.

Natalia Vega-Aponte posted 18 digs, while Hadley Prince registered eight digs and five service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set:

The opening set started with teams swapping points as the Hawks picked up a block by Madison Hall and Ellie Middleton to start the scoring.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez registered a kill before Hadley Prince posted back-to-back aces to lead 7-4.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a pair of kills along with a kill by Nyah Powers to stretch the lead to 17-11.  Emmanuel rallied back to cut the deficit to 20-17 before Ellie Middleton notched a pair of kills to force a timeout, 22-17.

Ellie Middleton continued to score with a kill and an ace before Madison Hall finished off the set with a kill, 25-19.

Second Set:

Ellie Middleton started the scoring in the set with a kill to pace the Hawks to a 3-0 lead.  Ciara Ortega added a kill along with an ace by Madison Hall to put the Hawks up 6-2.

Nyah Powers and Alexa Lyons notched a kill before Hadley Prince served up an ace and Ellie Middleton posted a kill as Emmanuel rallied to take the lead 12-10.

Both teams swapped points throughout the set before the Lions took the set 25-20.

Third Set:

Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez registered a kill to start the set before Haydon Ahlers and Nyah Powers notched a kill to lead 6-5 early.

Emmanuel would go on a rally to lead 19-12 following a kill by Madison Hall.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Haydon Ahlers notched a kill to spark a run for the Hawks.  Ahlers added an ace and Nyah Powers had a block to close the gap to 20-17.

Katie Houston, Ellie Middleton, and Nyah Powers added a kill and Hadley Prince posted a service ace to trim the deficit to 22-21.

Emmanuel finished off the set to lead 2-1, 25-21.

Fourth Set:

Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez started off the set with a pair of kills to lead 4-3 early.  Middleton added two more kills to keep pace with the Lions.

Emmanuel pushed their advantage to 20-12 on Hawks miscues.  Haydon Ahlers slowed the run with a kill.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted the final kill for the Hawks as Emmanuel took the set 25-14 and the match.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns to the court on Saturday, October 16 as the Hawks take on Erskine in a league contest.  First serve is slated for 2pm.
