MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team found their groove a little too late in a loss to North Greenville in league action on Friday evening.

Ellie Middleton posted six kills, 14 digs and three aces in the contest. Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the team with eight kills and added 15 digs and four aces.
Natalia Vega-Aponte had a team high 18 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Anixa Rosa-Martinez gave the Hawks their first kill to even the score at 3-all early. Alondra Rivera-Miranda tallied an ace before Chloe Putnam posted a kill. Back-to-back kills by Ellie Middleton evened the score at 7-all.
Haydon Ahlers added a kill before North Greenville went on a 9-3 run to lead 18-12. Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill during the spurt before adding another kill to end the run.
NGU tallied six straight points to lead 24-14 before taking the set 25-16.
Second Set:
The Crusaders started the set with a 10-2 run with both points coming off errors for the Hawks. Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill as the deficit grew to 13-5.
Ellie Middleton and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a kill each before Middleton tallied a pair of aces to cut the deficit to 15-10.
NGU used an 8-2 run to lead 24-12. Chloe Putnam and Nyah Powers teamed up for a block during the offensive stall. Chowan rallied back with five straight points as Anixa Rosa-Martinez served up three aces and Ellie Middleton tallied a kill to cut the deficit to 24-17.
Third Set:
Ellie Middleton started off the set with a kill and an ace. Madison Hall posted an ace to put the Hawks up 5-3.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam posted a kill to keep pace with the Crusaders. Madison Hall, Ellie Middleton, and Rosa-Martinez evened the score at 13-all with kills.
Haydon Ahlers sparked a rally with a kill followed by Chloe Putnam with a kill and teamed up with Ellie Middleton with a block to lead 19-16.
NGU rallied to take the lead 20-19 and again at 22-21. The Crusaders finished off the set with the final three points to take the set 25-22.

Chowan returns to the court on Saturday, October 2 as the Hawks take on the other Crusaders, Belmont Abbey at 2pm.
